Would anybody be interested, would anyone know a facility that could host such an event?

I grew up in the area and will be moving back this summer, but haven't yet been to a good barbell gym around there. This one place in Rockville looks really solid, I think K. Diesel has talked about it before on these boards: http://www.SupremeSportsPT.com

It's about 15 miles from where I'll be working later this year so I'll definitely be trying to get up there and check it out. May be the kind of place that would be interested in hosting something, I don't know.

I've heard good things about supreme as well... haven't made it up to check it out, and its a bit too far away for regular training (especially via the beltway at about 6PM).

My wife and I currently train at the Fitness First in Tyson's Corner... gym is somewhat globo but they have two squat racks and a power cage and have chalk. Best we were able to find around here.

SSPT is an excellent gym with extremely knowledgable members especially from a powerlifting perspective. Matt Gary (the owner of the gym) is a former American IPF World Games coach, and his wife is I believe a 14 time USAPL National and 3 time IPF World champion. They have everything that you could want from a powerlifting perspective. Squat racks, ER Rack with competition bench, bands, chains, deadlift platform, plenty of TPBs, and one olympic platform complete with jerk boxes and olympic bars. If I worked closer to DC instead of closer to Baltimore (and subsequently live in Baltimore) there would be no doubt in my mind that I would be training at SSPT as it is the undoubtedly the best powerlifting gym in the DMV.

It probably wouldn't be a place to host a SS Seminar though as it is very compact and there were about 12 people there when I was there it was a little crowded.

South Baltimore CrossFit would probably be interested in hosting the SS Seminar, theres more room and a lot of free open space there. And as much as I'm prejudiced against Xfit this gym is preaching Starting Strength to all its members and does the SS Workouts before whatever it is crossfitters call a workout.

Why oh why did the Air Force make me move to California? I wish I was still in DC. Oh well, next stop Cheyenne, Wyoming! Middle of nowhere.

I move back to Baltimore in April. When is this seminar likely to happen?

No idea. Stef posted in another section of this board that a facility has to be willing to host and show interest in having a SS seminar. I'm not sure if anyone from our area has done so, so it might be a good idea to brainstorm together and see if we know of any potentially receptive location

I'd be interested in attending, too. SSPT is the place to train in the DC area, if you can, but I agree on size being a limiting factor.

Hrm...

We (meaning the some of people at South Baltimore Barbell Club), are headed to the Montclair NJ one in April-May. However, I think the owners of South Baltimore CF might be amenable to hosting one, so I will bring it up.

On another note, this seems like a good place to post this: We have a bunch of dudes (and ladies) doing SS, O-lifting, etc MWF at 4:30pm. Send me a PM if you wanna drop by!

Hey Stronger- Primal Fitness is a good location and they are hip to rip. They have a grill too. My favorite place to train in DC. Parking kind of sucks but that would be the only drawback.

Me and the wife would be down. We would be able to catch a hop from Germany to DC no problem (I think). Keep this going.

Don't forget to check out our Coaches directory. There are some excellent coaches in your area who have passed the high standards of the Starting Strength Seminar.

Count me in if it happens. The folks at S. Baltimore crossfit are SS certified, as is the owner of Crossfit retribution in Westminster, MD--he runs a SS template "barbell club" in addition to the Crossfit classes, but even those are certainly geared more to strength than typical.
