Went downstairs to the hotel bar to catch a little of the Super Bowl. Had a few shots of Maker's Mark and then followed that up with a couple of bowls of chili. Do you see where this is going?
Had a few more beers throughout the night. Didn't sleep right at all and felt all fidgety and sick this morning. Finally gave in an just puked and felt much better right away (vomiting is the body's way of violently expelling toxins that are trying to kill you).
I was supposed to hit 405x3x3 SQ today. Don't know if I'm in any shape to do it now. I suspect that the urge will grow stronger, but the flesh may not be ready.

Damn, that sucks!
Get some rest, and in the mean time, keep visualizing yourself being able to hit those numbers. I think you'll be able to do it, you're frickin' strong dude.

Hehe. Just go through your warm-ups, see how you feel. Might be surprised. What's the worst that could happen: warm-ups suck and you decide to call it a day?

I've had similar urges to do something challenging after a rough night, especially when I'd been planning to go hard at it anyway and the disappointment/discomfort/taste of boot from last night is pushing me on - like if I just go out and do something hard, I'll feel clean again. Sometimes it even works, but usually not. Don't think any less of yourself for pushing it back a day, sounds like some water and advil are in order.

good luck, gary, but beware of the blowout!
From my experience, booze is expensive carbs. Look at it that way. Get hydrated and get after it. But to second anchor, beware of bud mud.

Bud mud?
Nice choice in whiskey, Gary.

The lesson to be learned is: never mix your drinks--unless you're going to have just one of something, like a glass of champagne after a night of beer on the New Year.

If you are American then you can watch the Superbowl at a real time so you can't really complain.
In bed at 4am last night, then some bogus exam this morning and three hours of super lame labs.

Heh, it's not even that! All of the calories, none of the nutrition!

I got a chance to stop in at the downtown gym at which I used to be a member. I spent an awful lot of time in the squat rack there and I missed the damned thing.
Warm ups felt incredible. The bars there are on the thin and smooth side and they don't rip up my back the way thicker, gnarled bars do. 315x2 felt like I was squatting air. Belted up and pulled up knee sleeves for the warm up single with 365 which also felt really smooth and almost easy. The work sets with 405 triples were amazing. I'm very, very proud of how I managed to maintain my back angle throughout. The first rep with 405 felt almost as easy as 365 had.
Again, I've only ever squatted 405 once before. It's a real thrill to be able do sets across with it. God bless weight gain. God bless the Russian Squat Routine. Got to go log this now.

Thanks, August.
And what have we learned from this? That we should drink till we puke before heavy squat days and new max attempts!
Kidding.

Occasional indulgement is only human. All work and no play makes Gary a dull boy.

Like many activities, drinking requires properly planned training to get adaption. Sounds like you didn't put in the work before going for a heavy PR, and suffered as a result.
It is now your duty to design a Smolov routine for drinking Makers Mark.
Please post ASAP.

I'm picturing graphs of wave loading correlated with diminished liver function. How do you determine your 1RM? Ounces Gulped Before Losing Consciousness?

I think it was the chili.

Or vomitting.

I think it was the chili.
I would classify that as assistance, not primary.
It's really up to Gary, though.
