View Full Version : Should I buy a new belt?

I just started using a belt that I had lying around. Its one of those belts that is thicker in the back around the lumbar and also has cushioning along the back as well. I have heard that these belts are not the best to use as belts should be uniform all the way around.

Would it be worth it to purchase a new belt or is the increased performance/support only incremental?

I would go with a non-tampered belt. Inzer has some nice economy priced belts.

According to SS, a tapered belt doesn't really work well because we're trying to push off of the front.

+1 .... I have a forever 10mm from Inzer, and it's very good quality.

Yup. Super nice belt - especially the lever.

Thought Id bring this thread back instead of starting a new one..

Ive decided to pick up a 10mm inzer forever belt, still debating between the lever and the single prong.

My problem is Im confused with which size to get? What is the proper way to measure the right size of my waist and how does this relate to the size of belt I should get?

Just to go back to what you posted a while ago: the difference between wearing a belt and not wearing a belt is huge. It really helps you stay tight.

I've got the forever belt with the single prong and I'm loving it. Never tried the lever.

I believe your pant size works fine for this. I wear a size 34, I ordered a belt for a 33-35 inch waist, and it fits well.

Thanks PVC,

I was going to go with my pant size but its not very accurate for my waist size. From my thread in recovery - my glutes are proportionetely larger than my waist size. So the pants I wear is somewhat loose around my waist but tight a couple inches lower around my glutes.

I also dont understand why a belt can only fit 33-35.

Anyone have any other recommendations about whether I should go with the lever or single prong?

When I was researching buying a belt, it seemed that most people who had tried both preferred the lever belts. The biggest downside seems to be cost. If that is not an object, then go for a lever belt. As for sizing, you can always call the company and get help. Inzer and EFS seem to have good service from the responses I have read here.

According the site lever and single prong are the same price.

I consider my pant waist size to be a 34. A large for a lever belt is a 34-38. Do I need to get a belt that is slightly smaller than my waist size to get a tight fit? I really dont wanna buy a belt thats too big

Get a tape, measure where you'll wear the belt. Usually around the navel. Belts often have a couple inches of extra holes either way and it's statistically more likely that you'll gain inches than lose inches.

I prefer single prong over lever because my waist size fluctuates and so do my preferences for tightness.

Call Inzer. They will be able to answer your questions definitively.

Gonna call tomorrow for fitting.

Last question before I purchase - whats the difference/advantages between one and two prongs. Which would you recommend.

Double prong is a hassle. There aren't any advantages to double prong, in my opinion, but I'm sure somebody will make some up. Single prong is easier to fasten and unfasten and is plenty secure.

I have a double prong and wish I would have just gotten a single. It's not a huge deal, but a single would be a little easier and I don't see any downside.

Also, I've heard others recommend against the lever style. I've never used one, but I think the argument was that it is easier to control the tightness of a normal belt versus the lever.

I echo the double prong sentiment. There is nothing wrong with it save for the fact that it is a tad bit more difficult to don/doff.

Regarding the lever, if you use the same belt tightness for all of your lifts, it is worth the extra $ for the hassle it saves. However, if you use a different hole for your deads than you do your squats (i wear mine a hole tighter on squats) than the lever is not the belt for you as it takes a screwdriver to move up/down in holes.

I measure about 37 1/2 around the stomach with a tape measure. I have an Inzer Large and I'm on the third hole from the bottom; I can go 2 holes smaller, or many more larger before modifications are necessary.

Do your trust that your pants acutally measure the same as your waist? I wear a 34 in Wranglers, but my waist measures 36 with a tape.

not really more hoping and praying. I am fairly thin around the waist though.

I measue 37" around the stomach and a have a size Large Inzer that fits perfectly in the middle of the holes. You could be cutting it close with a medium, and any weight gain could cause a problem.

Measured my waist at 34 and 3/4" should I call and change my order to a large?

That may make you on the smallest notches of a large. But the belt goes a bit higher than your waist. How big is your stomach? How much do you weigh? How much do you plan on weighing?

I measured at the point I would place my belt (natural waist). Im 6' and weight ~183 plan to be 200 probably after that eventually 220 before I cut(but this is long term).

I dont really mind calling in tomorrow and switching my order - shouldnt be a big deal. Just dont wanna get a belt that swims on me.

Probably need someone with a medium to chime in here. You may fit just fine with room to spare.

I will say that my belt holding my pants right now and my inzer would probably not touch if worn at the same time. If I put my 4" Inzer down where my waist is, I would most likely break my ribs at the bottom of a squat. I really recommend measuring at your belly button.

MikeJanell

Measured it at my belly button at 34 3/4". Cant decide which to choose now. What should I do? As this is a forever belt I kinda want to use this.... well forever. Should I just go with the large?

Are you planning on gaining >10 lbs anytime soon? If so, the larger size will last you longer.

Yes I am currently trying to gain about 15-20lb.

Im gonna switch it to a large.

You should probably get the larger size. If it's too big you could always drill some holes in it, but since you intend to gain weight you'll fit in it nicely sure enough.

Ya thats what I thinking. Worst case scenario Im drilling holes..but if I go with a medium theres not much I can do once I outgrow it.

Switched the order to a large on Monday - said it was going to take 10-14 days to get here...damn shipping across the border.
