View Full Version : Abnormally large ass.

Is this normal for someone doing SS? Or possibly a product of poor deadlift/squat form. I went to the doctors today who pointed out that my glute muscles were disproportionately large for the rest of my body.
Is something I'll grow into the more I grow and progress - or something I'll lose when I cut?

Pretty silly.. if you did nothing but work biceps, I doubt the doctor would remark on your oversized arms. Squat ass should be a source of pride. For novices, it seems to be the one of the first muscles to get big. Nothing wrong with it.

Did the doctor have some medical concern over the size of your gluteus maximus or was he just waxing aesthetically? Yes it's normal that this is going to grow with heavy squatting. With respect to form, it more likely means you're doing something right than wrong.

wo, alot of replies.
First, not a troll post - but made me feel better that you thought it was.
I went to the doctors cause I was getting recurring back spasms. Just got some x-rays and all my bones are where they are supposed to be.
I know my doctor fairly well and he jokes around with alot but, just before I left he mentioned that I had rather large glutes and asked me what I was doing. I said squats and deadlifts - he then replied that it may be something I am doing that is triggering the spasms.
He joked around a bit that my ass was big and asked if people laughed behind my back at me.....(no joke).
Anyways for some reason he got me kinda paranoid and had me bothered for the ride home.
Appreciate all the responses (and poster)....definetely made me feel better.
Assuming that's you in your form check video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xiz-Gb6H9b0), I don't see that your ass is abnormally large. Maybe your doctor is hitting on you...
If anything, I think many (non-overweight) people's asses are abnormally small. Maybe your doc is used to seeing more sedentary people.

Agreed. I've heard the claim of an overgrown ass on a couple internet forums and it is always bullshit.
If you watch the NFL you will see some huge, strong glutes. I guarantee your butt is not that big, and if it is, it is a good thing.
Most Doctor's are idiots. I'd suggest contacting a local university's training department and asking for who their team doctor is, then visit him instead of the typically squats are bad for you morons.

Definitely this. Have you tried buying mens pants recently? They're all designed for people with a flat ass.
Although, technically your ass is "abnormally large", considering that the average person has a small ass. But so what? Arnold Schwarzenneger was "abnormally muscular", Michael Jordan was "abnormally good at basketball", and Sir Isaac Newton was "abnormally smart". Abnormal doesn't equal bad; bad equals bad.

The last pair of pants I bought were womens, no lie.
They fit incredibly well, I mean amazing.
But I just look to bootylicious in them, would attract stares. So Im gonna have to take em back and give up the cross-dressing for now.

ahhh yes that is me. First view gives a pretty decent view although I not standing straight. Good to know I am over exaggerating.
Pant size increased alot - although the ones I wear now are slightly loose around the waist and a bit tight a couple inches lower.
To be fair my doc never really said that large glutes were a bad thing - he just mentioned that I had large glutes compared to the rest of my body.
I still kinda have an ectomorph look imo so maybe thats why its a little more pronounced.
Btw - squat form has improved since then - shoes definitely help.

Your ass looks smaller than mine. I have to buy pants a size larger so that they fit my ass and thighs. Then I look silly by having to belt them in around my smaller waist. Don't worry about it, and wear athletic shorts as often as possible. That way people get to see your massive tree trunk appendages and the womens will swoon over you.

Been there, done that. I started scrawny and the first thing to get big was my ass. Girlfriend noticed and always laughed when i was standing without a shirt on side-on to her view (I'm a little lordotic, so it exaggerates even more). Then i got a comment from my buddy's girlfriend "holy crap, dude, your ass is getting huge" and then one from a co-worker when she was walking behind me "I'm not checking you out or anything but I didn't believe you when you said you gained 30lbs, now i see it".
Pants shopping is useless. I went to West49 (baggy skater clothes) and I tried on 9 pairs of "relaxed fit" jeans. I couldn't even get my legs INTO 5 of them and they all had a waist that was 2-4 inches larger than my waist.

Anyone find good brands to fit muscular body types? I've outgrown all my jeans, and after going shopping last month, all that fit were Levi's relaxed fit, 559. On everything else, the thighs were too tight and the waist was too large.

There's been threads about this before. My dockers are the only pair of pants that I own where the waist is smaller than the ass... It seems the "average" man nowadays has more back fat that ass muscle.

559's were too tight for me. Levi's 569's are the only pants that fit me correctly, meaning my legs actually fit with a comfortable waist. For everything else I have to go an extra 2 inches on the waist and then tighten to fit with a belt

I wear boots primarily (which look funny with wide-leg jean IMO). My back side is a little small, but my legs are pretty big. Levi 529 boot-cut jeans work well because they stretch a little bit and still look good. They'd be good for any of you who don't have such a large butt.
Primarily, however, I try my best to stay in sweats or some other workout pants whenever possible. I remember wide-leg cargo khakis always fit well though I've outgrown the pairs I have.

I've had good luck with Lucky brand jeans. I picked some up while I was down in the states, and was amazed at how well they fit my squat legs.
For dressier clothes, the only brand that seems to fit me well are Calvin Klein clothes. Broad shoulders, narrow-ish waist, muscular legs, nothing else works.

Calvin Klein is good, but christ, i can't afford a wardrobe at those prices. I bought a CK suit and it was the most expensive at TipTopTailors and fit like a dream. I better not have grown out of it already or I'll shit... i'm up about 10lbs since i bought it.

Yeah, Lucky's are good. Unfortunately, the pair I have are a little thin (and tight in the upper thigh area) and accentuate things a little more than I'd like.
And for suits, Jones New York works well, too.

In the UK, 'fanny' means vagina. So you can imagine the lols when Americans openly discuss their 'fanny pack', especially since 'fanny packs' are THE attire for tourists. They call it a 'bum bag' I think.

"United States president George H. W. Bush, who while touring Australia in 1992, attempted to give a "peace sign" to a group of farmers in Canberra—who were protesting about U.S. farm subsidies—and instead gave the insulting V sign."
Oh George Bush... the international symbol for fucking idiot.
I suspected that since "fanny" is sometimes used to mean "bum" that a fanny pack would be a packing of one's...
Anyway, they've got their fucked up words. Like, they smoke fags here. Everyone else calls them cigarettes or cigs. But here, 'fag' means 'cigarette'.
You can get into all sorts of trouble if a Brit went to the US, asking "Can I bum a fag?"

Perhaps we really should start a thread on finding a reasonably stylish pair of jeans for the bigger legged and assed among us...
I went shopping last weekend with my girl friend and we found nothing that fit or was even close to comfortable...
I need about a 34 inch waist size (tape measured waist about 37"), but my freaking thighs are 26+ inches. I want to get stronger, but please no more muscle size in my legs! Seriously...seems strange to say, but it's a big pain.

If you dont mind baggy jeans, like all the skaters and hip-hoppers where wearing in the 90's, this is very very easy. You could probably find old pairs dirt cheap/free which wouldve originally been very expensive. Check thrift stores & ebay.
Look for carpenter jeans and work pants too. They always have wide legs.
The problem comes when you want fitted jeans & casual trousers. It is really really difficult. Especially because most things have a "low-rise" waist now, designed to be worn around the hips/ass and not the actual waist. My ass is massive and I can barely get these silly trousers on, then they will both restrict my legs from moving and crush my balls.
The solution lies in womens jeans, seriously. You can easily find womens stuff with a high waist, where the waist size is relatively small but the ass/thighs are big, and the calves are a bit narrower. Plus nearly all of them have a little stretch.

Problem is my gal is a bit picky about jeans and while she is quite fond of my muscular ass, it's hard to find something both stylish that she likes and that is at least reasonably comfortable for me. Everything she picks out ends up being basically painted on me. Perhaps I will go on a quest this weekend...

As of this week it is shorts season for me anyhow, till september or so.
A couple days ago a gang of some bratty, goofy (as in teeth) wannabe gangsta, 14 year olds started mocking my shorts wearing on a cool, windy spring day.
They did it in a really vague & confusing way, it took me a while to figure out they found my shorts unusual. I retorted with the fact it was not raining, as some of them as the hoods of their nylon jackets over their heads.
These kids were scrawny enough for me to throw them into the road, they probably weighed what I can currently power clean. But I resisted.

Hi,
I was about to raise also this question to the people of the forum (big ass - trousers), as I thought you guys are facing the same problem...
Brands that I've found which sale trousers that fit are:
http://www.c-and-a.com/
Got some nice fitting ones for < 15 EUR, good textil and nice fit
http://www.timberland.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=1761131&p=1779791.1761083
http://www.oxbow.fr
http://www.carhartt.com
Trekking and outdoor companies seem to have the right stuff
http://trussardi.com/
Bit more expensive, not easy to find, but very nice.
Another option is to get trousers that are a bit elastic (just a bit!), but not wearing them tight...
For suits I would defitely say: tailor

Ive been wearing shorts for the past month (always size up on shorts). The weather just turned cold again so I went to put on some trousers.
I just realised that I have grow out of pretty much all of them!!
Reluctantly a lot of my trousers have the low-rise waist. I much prefer a high waist but nodbody really makes them anymore. My wasit has stayed teh same size, about a 32" but my hips have now grown out to 36". Most my trousers were 32". Which is much too small now.
So I am stuck with either shorts or some baggy jeans I have left over from the 1990's.
