Back in the school days, it was the standard PWO shake of high carbs + high protein. Now, I lift after work and just eat dinner after.

I go with a shake, about 16oz milk and some whey protein isolates, for about 40 grams of protein. Sometimes follow that up with some cottage cheese before bed.

I have my main meal of the day which involves mainly meat & rice. I used to take milk to the gym but recently the weather has got warmer and Im sick of stinky bottles.

My post-workout meal varies, but recently I've been liking the frozen buffalo burgers from Trader Joe's. 43g of protein per quarter pound patty, cooks up in a few minutes, and tastes much better than a beef patty from the local burger place.

it seems like most people on this thread focus on getting lots of protein PWO. does anyone try and get any carbs in? what is the theory behind your PWO recovery meal? does anyone do a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein?

thanks :)

1 qt chocolate milk and a couple of bananas. It's convenient and easy to consume at work.

What do you all do for pre workout nutrition/supplements/meals?

I have a blender, so I go with the following:

12 oz water or whole milk (depends on the amount of conditioning I did)
30g of Protein powder (Choc or chocolate peanut butter cup flavors)
2 tbs peanut butter

Blend. It's awesomeness.

I'll also try to eat within 2 hours post shake.

Pre-workout supplements are a joke. Stay away from them, you are better off just drinking a few cups of coffee instead.

I tried them and all they did was make my shit liquid and make me have to piss twice during my workout.

I actually injured my shoulders while using a NO pre-workout drink. I was able to throw around more weight and I ended up straining both shoulders. Took me almost 6 weeks of training light to recover :(

So the dont work, yet they stimulated you into feats of strength so great your system couldn't handle it?

I get the same energy from a large flavored coffee with a shot of espresso added to it ( a red eye )

Without the shits and the insane hyperness that causes me to lift 20 pounds more than I should, resulting in a strain.

2 scoops and I was fired up, 3 scoops and I was bouncing from station to station.

I believe there is 1 cup of coffee worth of caffine and 1 energy drink worth of taurine in each scoop most pre-workout supps.

Not to mention that you build up a tolerance to stims over time anyways...
