What do people generally get ore recommend getting from trueprotein.com? It seems like people are always raving about trueprotein.com - especially the prices - but I'm not really seeing it. Am I missing something?
I typically get Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard (Natural). $43.99 from amazon.com for 5-lbs, same price in-store at Vitamin Shoppe. That works out to $8.80/lb.
The whey protein isolates at trueprotein.com run from $8.45 - $9.97 / lb (and slightly more for less than 16 lbs). Not really cheaper than the ON at all. Whey concentrate is a good deal cheaper, but I'm guessing there's a quality difference between the isolates & the concentrate.
The only other thing I can see is that the 25 & 50-lb recession packs are a good deal cheaper, so maybe that's it. But can that much be safely stored for a few months?

Uh maybe because you can customize it....?

My understanding is that the only difference between concentrates and isolates is the degree to which whey has been isolated from the rest of the stuff in the milk. Concentrate is <= 80% protein; isolate is more. Trueprotein claims that their concentrate is 77-80%.
As far as I know, for a given level of protein consumption, it doesn't particularly matter whether it came from concentrate or isolate. Concentrate does have more fat and lactose, though; the fat may slow absorption slightly, and the lactose may cause lactosey issues for some people.
I haven't ordered from trueprotein, but I'm looking into it. I couldn't find any concrete shipping cost info without entering personal information, though. Does anybody have insight into this?

The answer is that commercial wheys are not 100% whey isolates, far from it. They are however the same price than trueprotein's whey isolates, which makes it cheaper.
If I were to buy whey from trueprotein I would just buy concentrate. It's silly to bitch about a couple of grams of carbs and fat unless you are lactose intolerant.

I think it's cause folks get a personal code to that site and I guess whoever clicks the link with their code, it's worth a discount or money or something; I'm not sure. I don't think it's a magical place of anabolic wonder but I do think it's probably a decent business that's caught a foothold cause it serves our crowd really well and vends a high quality product.
I buy Scivation Whey from DPS. I've spent ten years drinking dissolved powders and I like this one -- taste, texture, etc -- well enough to realize I can stop looking and fall in to a rut. If you find your sweet spot at trueprotein, more power to you. It's nice not having to sweat over your whey.

I get a customized mix 50% isolate 50% sweedish oat starch as recommended by JP. That way I have protein and an energy source in one shot.
Shipping is kinda high, it was $30 for my order (about 25 pounds of product).
It costs extra (per pound) to get it in a jug or to add sweetners. The unsweetened flavors are pretty rough, I would reccomend springing for the premium flavors (which are heavenly).

I've been thinking about putting in an order as well, along with some non-dairy protein for the lady (she's allergic). I like that fact that I can put together a mixture for a meal replacement, and one for pre/post workout. And being able to get the various add-ins they offer is pretty damn sweet. squatson, you got any favorite flavors?

The 50/50 protein is just vanilla (sweetened with Splenda) because I like it to be versatile...Sometimes I mix it with milk, sometimes diet pepsi, pre/post I mix it in with my waximaize.
Waximaize is the premium wild berry blast...it tastes like purple Kool-Aid.
The recession deals are for unflavored (which should be renamed to bigfoot's dick flavored)

I think "Cock of Sasquatch" has more flair, but duly noted, regardless.

Tertius, you are a marketing genius. I hear the "Chupacabra's Balls" is a sleeper hit as well.
I just get the recession whey. Seems to keep well enough if you store it airtight. I suppose if you want fancy custom crap, you can do that. Some people are particular about what they want and this gives them an opportunity to customize (BCAAs, exact types of protein, additional sugars, included creatine, all that jazz), but I just want whey, so I just get whey.
EDIT: If you've just been getting ON regular whey, then you might as well just get the recession whey. A lot cheaper.
