Which one has better food and better deals? I haven't eaten fast food in more than 5 years, I'm completely ignorant.

Whichever one is doing $1 double cheeseburgers. Burger King sometimes does it as a special. Most McDonalds don't do it anymore - they have the McDouble instead (two burgers, less cheese), which is adequate. The dbl cheeseburger is then like $1.29.

woah... i spend 6.77 for a double bacon deluxe at Wendy's. It has two patties that are larger than McCrap, a few slices of bacon, cheese and onion/pickle/tomato/etc

How much is that?

I'm going to get the buck double today. I wonder if I can customize it.

I used to get two buck doubles, and take the patties from one and put it in the other thus creating a 4 patty burger. It's pretty alright.

MCd's gives me heartburn.

$3 for a McGangbang is a pretty good deal.

The question is whether you want a good burger or if you want a lot of meat for cheap. If you want a good burger, I think Burger King is better if that's the choice. Whoppers, customize however you like, IMO. Though McD's angus offerings are kind of okay, I guess. But if it's meat you want, just whoever has the cheapest double cheeseburgers.

I don't eat either one hardly ever, but for burger quality, Burger King destroys McDonalds. There is just no contest. A BK burger looks like pan fried meat. A McDonald's burger... I don't even know. Looks like something disguised as a burger.

I got food poisoning from BK in 7th grade and haven't been back since. Just a mental thing. I like the McDonalds double cheeseburgers in a pinch. Hardees is the place I prefer. One of their hidden items is the spicy chicken sandwich for $1. Not always on the menu but almost always available.

About every three years I think to myself "Man, I really couldn't stand Burger King the last time I ate there...but it can't really be that bad." So I go eat there. And it turns out, it really is as bad as I remember.

It's around £5 here in the UK which is a lot but it is about 1000 calories so well worth it, also sampled the Texican Double Whopper yesterday which I had never seen before and it was very nice, it's a double Whopper topped with taco-incased chilli con-carne and jalepenos, maybe a standard issue over in the states but I've never seen it here before!

That makes me feel better for spending $7CDN (3.5£?) for a 900cal burger.

My main beef (hawhaw) with McDonalds is the lack of any burgers on the menu with more than 500 calories, i thought it was supposed to be bad for you!? Its a waste of time, i went today, got 2 burgers and still felt like i was starving to death.

But do they fry the burgers?Burger King claims to "flame broil" their burgers, but I'm pretty sure that's bullshit. I think they cook them on big "greasy spoon" style skillets (which, honestly, is a better way to cook burgers than a grill + flame. Same is true for steak. Sorry, backyard cooking fans.)

Fool! ~400 calories per dollar for the McDouble is a pretty good deal for fast food. It's my gold standard. Get 5 at a time.

Well, that sucks. The McDouble is the dbl cheeseburger without some of the cheese. We used to have the dbl cheeseburger for $1, then they made that $1.25 or something and have the McDouble for $1. It's BS. But, yeah, better than England. I blame agriculture subsidies.

Wendy's by a mile if we're counting only the big 3 chains. Hardees is a great change.

If you ever make it to Nashville, Fat Mo's is incredible. Occasionally I go there and get the 27 oz burger. It also of course has bacon and cheese etc... They also have an incredible 16 oz burger.

A lot of you guys seem interested in cheap, but, I'm all about quality.

No Wendy's near campus.

There's a White Castle though, but those burgers are too fucking thin.

Wendy's used to be good. Something satisfying about putting away 10 White Castle or Krystal burgers. If you want calories then Hardees/Carl Jrs is the place to go.

BK does "flame broil" them...... worked there all through HS.... It's basically a gas grill conveyor belt type thing.

I'll take a true grilled burger/steak over pan fried any day as long as the cook knows what they're doing. A lot of people jack up food on the grill by flipping it non stop and squishing the crap out of it to make it "go faster" and they dry it out terribly.

I worked at one, back in high school. Worst quality meat ever.
Frozen patties go into the very, very hot conveyor belt grill, flop out the other end after about two minutes.

If you let them thaw out while raw, they turn into something with a consistency similar to very soft gelatin.

I didn't read any of this thread (besides the above--thank you, Tertius, I will never eat at a BK again), but it occurs to me that McDonald's OR Burger King is a false dichotomy. The correct answer is "neither."

That is all. Return to your barbells and/or food piles.

Damm you Americans and your abundance of fast food options. I was stoked to discover that McDonalds has finally brought the McDouble to Australia, @ $2 a pop it's a bargain, downed 3 of those bad boys for afternoon tea.

I noticed everyone is just metnioning the big chains, is this just so everyone can compare the same stuff available in different places or is there an actual lack of independent fast food businesses in the USA?

In the UK, the best fast food by far can be had in independent outlets. It is also way cheaper than Burger King, McD's or KFC.

Depends on where you are. I live near a University, so there are lots of cheap non-fast-food places. Teriyaki, gyros, and, yes, burgers. Independent burger places are not quite as cheap as McDonalds etc.; they tend to be in the $5 region, rather than the $2 region. But that's not really apples to apples; the non-chain burgers are more comparable to a Big Mac than a basic dollar-menu hamburger. And far better tasting.

09-24-2010, 07:14 PM
Are big chain burgers even made from mostly meat? Im sure they bulk them out with texturised soy protein and similar nonsense.

Scrofula
09-24-2010, 07:32 PM
In the US, the FDA has various requirements about what may or may not be labeled as a hamburger (as opposed to 'beef patties' or something similar). I'm pretty sure the chain burgers are, in fact, technically beef.

The guy that works beside me is married to a meat inspector. Technically anything that is not bone or brain is considered "meat", so you could be eating any part of the animal that has been texturized to "feel" like a proper burger and they can still call it 100% beef. This includes cartilage and, of course, anus.

Lol, if you grown up on a diet of Australian meat pies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_and_New_Zealand_meat_pie) you'd never worry about the meat content of McDonald's patties.
