What are some good things to mix into a shake to add calories? I'm thinking Nesquik.

Carb powder (maltodextrin) is what they add to protien powder to make "mass gainer" or meal replacement. It seems way cheaper to mix the protien and carb powder together myself.

I throw in a banana and about a cup of frozen mixed berries, and I make my shake with milk instead of water. You could use juice, too. This, of course, is predicated on the availability of a blender, mortar and pestle, or similar pulverizing apparatus to render the banana and berries drinkable.

Bananas, plain greek yogurt (adds a nice tanginess), berries, whole milk, ground flax seed, various juices (with plain or fruit flavored protein powders).

Personal mixture:

Peanut butter cup shake

2 Cups of Milk
4 Ice Cubes
1/2-1 cup of Oats (Preference dominates here really. Can be really grainy)
1/2-1 cup of Peanut Butter (Too much = too thick. Too little = difficult to taste)
1/2-1 Banana (Make sure it's not overly ripe, otherwise that's all you'll taste.)
1-2 cups of Vanilla Protein powder (I use Syntha-6. Really amazing Taste)

My personal recipe aside, as greg said, most fruits and grains serve as good complements to a protein shake. Let me know if you try my recipe. I'm always eager to see what people think of it (Hardly original I know, but I did come up with it on my own =D)

Another scoup of protein?

It really depends on what you NEED to suppliment your diet with. If all you need is sugar, replace milk with melted ice cream, or dump sugar into it. If you need more fat, use an oil of some sort. If you're already balanced, just make a bigger shake?

This is my pre-workout shake. Although I use a Pestel and mortor instead of the blender as it's more in line with Paleo.

For a regular meal replacement, I might add in something with a bit more substence and fat, like peanut butter and oatmeal.

You're lucky you're on another continent, funny man. Shouldn't you be out feeding your kangaroo or something?

Wait, paleo dictates HOW you prepare foods now?

It always did, man. If you don't take down your meal with a bone club and eat the entrails on the spot so the wolves don't get you, you might as well be at the bakery sucking down pastries and Cokes while you grow more diabetic by the second. Shit, Loren Cordain would scalp a n00b like you and use it for a hat, I'm sayin'. Bone club. Mortar and pestle. Get on it!

I smoked a joint in an igloo a few weeks ago. That's both the most Paleo and Canadian thing I've done in my life.

Well since this thread went to shit quick ill just add my 2 cents and be on my way.

Optimum Nutrition chocolate is great. dynamite banana is amazing. Both mix well.

Don't bother with casein. They're expensive mix like shit. And milk is just a better option.

No no no.

ON Extreme Milk Chocolate is where it's at. Two scoops in 16oz of whole milk = fucking perfect chocolate milk and approximately 65g of protein.

You're lucky you're on another continent, funny man. Shouldn't you be out feeding your kangaroo or something?

Around here, Kangaroos reach 9' tall and have claws enough to take half you face off. Apparently they're a nice source of lean protein though.

That reminds me, I really need to get a pic of my friends Kangaroo paw. It's damn near as big as my (stubby) hands.

It's not very nice meat though.

I've heard quite the opposite. Of course, which cut of meat and how it is prepared and how the animal was raised is just important for Roo as for beef.

I should point out that I had it in a chili.

Might not have enough fat to make a good chilli.

Best way I've had roo is in a thai stir fry. Because it has virtually no fat it needs to be cooked really fast. Flavour is alright if you like 'gamey' meat. It does have the advantage of being dirt cheap as well.

If you're after calories just add fat. Depending on how finicky you are, you could just dump in some olive oil. If that sounds gross adding heavy cream would probably be delicious but expensive. Oil's cheap as hell and once it's blended there's not much difference.
