Hi Mark,

I just discovered your starting strength program but I've been going to the gym for about a year now. I weigh 180lbs and for sets of 5x5 i can do...

squat: 220 lbs
deadlift: 230lbs
bench: 180lbs
Military: 130lbs

Is it too late for me to get on S.S.? If so, do you recommend anything else (Madcow intermediate? Texas Method etc..)?

Thanks for your time!

Why don't you just try it and find out?

I'm not the expert, but I weight 185 now and have been doing SS for 7 weeks.

Squat: 270
Deadlift: 310
Bench: 175
Press: 130

I'd say jump right in if you were asking me.

Deload a little, start, do it until it stops working. If you are eating enough you can likely go further.

Thanks for the advice guys, I feel like the squatting is going to rip me apart but ill give it a shot!

You would be doing lower volume so it should be a little easier on you than 5x5's, even though you should surpass the weight you are currently squatting pretty quickly.
