Hi coach Rip,
First of all I'd like to thank you for setting up such a great web site. I've been here for almost 3 weeks now and I'm loving it!
I've run a google search for the similar topic but haven't found any.
My question is: would it be possible to set up a program for an intermediate lifter in which you would do the overhead press or similar variations of it (push press) three times a week. Is there a way to recover from it? I've really grown to love the OHP and have taught of throwing out the bench completely, or just doing it once a week, and replacing it with OHP.

Read PPST.

Try it.

I used to do them 3x a week, although that was with kettlebells, and before I discovered starting strength. But my press is fairly impressive now. You might be able to do them for a while. Once your press really gets up there though you'll have trouble recovering.

Also at least one of the workouts has to be a different type of press. You can't just strict press 3x a week. Maybe push presses one one day, strict on the others.

Press 2x a week and bench 1x a week, best solution. It's like the opposite of what a powerlifter does.
