Hi Rip,
An efficient deadlift will break from the ground when the barbell is lined up below the scapula and above the middle of the foot.
Something I’ve been thinking about is this….
Since the lats most efficiently pull at the humerus when these two are perpendicular; it is most efficient to start the pull with this alignment. If most people's lats attached to the humerii in generally the same location, wouldn’t this mean there exists a back angle that generally fits most people to satisfy orthogonality between the lats and the humerii?
Would it follow that a longer-legged/shorter-armed lifter (who could not achieve orthogonality between the lats and humerii with a conventional stance) needs to consider a sumo stance to achieve that lat/humerus relationship?
I've been thinking about deadlifts too much...I know.
