Rip coaches the press as taught in Starting Strength, 3rd edition.

The video was filmed at the October 2012 inaugural Starting Strength Coaches Association Conference in Wichita Falls, TX

Outstanding. Perfect timing. I registered for the Pressing training camp in Atlanta this Sunday.

Just watched the first 20 minutes of the video. It was/is great and identified my mistake in trying to press according to SSBT3 (pressing first then moving hips rather than the correct order as shown in the video). My lower back has been pretty sore from pushing through hard reps incorrectly. I should be able to fix this now.
    Thanks for putting this up.

Would you say this is more difficult to coach than the version on the DVD? Harder to learn?

Thank you for this. The wife and I are starting SS this week and this convinces me that the DVD will be vital.

We find it easier to coach, and easier to get stronger.

    Default Tommy Suggs's Technique

Rip, do you think the way Tommy taught the press with the double hip thrust is a valid progression from this video? I am guessing the timing of the double hip thrust is much harder to learn since it's different as you increase in weight, or at least that's what I have experienced.

Here's a little secret: the 2nd hip kick happens automatically when the effort gets heavy enough. You don't have to try to put it in, because it is a reflexive response to the slowdown in bar speed.

So is there any difference between the SSv3 press and the Olympic Press?
