I know that you have noticed the same thing I have in recent years: everybody’s attention span has gotten shorter. This website, Statistic Brain, offers some very interesting statistics on the subject. For example, the average attention span in 2015 is 8.25 seconds, whereas it was 12 seconds in 2000.

Rip, in the conclusion you say: "Makes you wonder why more yogis aren't getting under the barbell".
You are so right and you were not joking when you wrote that.
I know, because for too long a time I was a wannabe yogi.
But one day I got under the barbell and I was "enlightened".

Makes me wonder about the role of music during a training session. I don't 'hear' the music when under the bar but it helps a great deal during the rest period. Wonder how much harder it would be to maintain focus during a 5min rest without music?

Entirely depends. Many of us find music distracting and counterproductive.

I can't lift with extraneous noise; music and talk radio break my focus. I blame it on mild (and undiagnosed) ADD. That and near crippling social anxiety and introversion is why I home gym.
