    5/26
    Squat 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, 315x1,1,1
    Bench 135x5, 185x5, 225x1,1,1

--Time to rest up until the meet. Weighed 219 this morning, so I don't have to cut weight. I should be fine as long as I limit my salt and fluid intake the day before weigh-ins.

    Possible attempts:
    Squat 500, 560, 575-585
    Bench 350, 380, 390-400
    Deadlift 600, 700, 715

    I'll be happy with a 1665 total.

holy motherfucker that would be a HUGE dl. What is your reasoning for the jump from 600 to 700?

I realize it looks a little strange, but I treat my openers as my last warmups. I'm used to taking approximately 55 lb jumps on the squat and 90 lb jumps on the deadlift in training, so I do roughly the same at the meet.

I could open with, say, 530 squat and 650 deadlift, and this would look more like what others typically do. However, I would be just as pissed to only end up with my openers as I would be to bomb out of a meet. I must get my second attempts, and accordingly I choose weights that I am confident I could hit even on a mediocre day. I'm less worn out for my seconds if I take a big jump from my opener than if I open heavier. Thus, light openers increase my odds of hitting my second attempts. And if I miss my seconds, I'm fucked anyway.

I like the strategy and did something similar at my latest meet with what I consider to be very nice success. Hope it goes as well for you, which I'm sure it will. Best of luck!

    5/30 Meet write-up

    Weighed-in at 216.

Squat 501-good, 556-good, 573-good (18 lb all-time PR, 23 lb meet PR, prob left 15 lbs in tank. Went a little conservative because the platform was soft, but this put me right where I wanted to be) 573 video:

Bench 350-something-good, 380-good, 402-good (27 lb meet and all-time PR, first ever 400 lb bench, pretty excited after this, felt like I had another 10 lbs in me)
    402 video:

Deadlift 606-good, 705-miss (grip), passed. I almost dropped first attempt and knew I was fucked going forward. Humidity plus sparing use of A/C in the facility meant we were sweating right through the chalk. Many others missing due to grip/torn hands, so I wasn't the only one. 705 was coming up easy but then took most of the flesh from my thumbs. Fucking cheese grater bars. Entire meet ruined. Failed to post a meaningful total. Dad took two days off work because he wanted to see me pull 700 and that got shot to shit. 705 miss video:

Since my performance was so shitty at the meet, I planned to jump back into competition as soon as possible. No more 1-2 year breaks between meets. I'll be hitting at least 2-3/year now. But I wanted one in 2-3 weeks to prove that the bar coming out of my hands was a fluke, and to get back all those lbs I left out there. Unfortunately, the earliest event near me I can find is July 18, so I'll just have to manage my anger for the next 7 weeks. If I miss again, I'll know it wasn't a fluke (i.e. wasn't due to environmental conditions such as heat, humidity, etc...unless those same conditions exist at the next meet). I'll then be able to accept that I'm simply not strong enough. Right now, I just can't accept it.

Squat and bench were smoked. You'll get the deadlift. How bad are your thumbs? Will they be ready in 2-3 weeks? Can't wait to see you crush it!

That deadlift is right there. You are definitely strong enough to make it. Congrats on the Squat and Bench PRs, 400 is an awesome milestone. Can't wait to see you crush it in 7 weeks.

Thanks, Nick. Dwayne, left thumb isn't bad. Right thumb is pretty bad. I'll be ready by July 18.

I do have some concerns about the coming weekend, however. Maybe Rip will allow me to wear gloves at the seminar in Wichita Falls lol.
