I did some pulldowns with a chin grip between squats and deads to see if that would help. It didn't, but after the meet, when I switch to a one lift a day focus, I will dedicate time to that movement. SS hasn't failed me yet.

    4/17 - Friday

9 days out from the meet.. I wanted to continue to work on my form, increase weight and get a final bit of volume in on my squat and bench.

    Squat: 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x3, 315x2, 365x1, 405x1, 455x1, 485x1, 500x1, back off sets 405x3, 315x5
Minimal knee pain only on 455, I forgot to cue myself to stay back on the way up. My focus wasn't there as it was a warm up. Regardless, this is great news; 3 weeks ago my knee was hurting so bad that considered dropping out of the meet.

    Bench: 95x10, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x1, 295x1, 305x1
The with the slingshot on: 305x5
At this point I was late for picking up my son, so I left. When I got home a shit ton of push-ups as I wanted more pressing volume. 100+, the last 50 with the slingshot on and my son on my back.

Feeling pretty good heading into my final week. Just a few more things to work on.

Nice going on the 500 squat Shadood! Glad to see the knee is doing better, and I look forward to seeing what you do at the meet.

    4/20/15 - Monday

6 days out from meet. I walked some hills for recovery, did some foam rolling and dug into my shoulder with a lacrosse ball yesterday.

Today was a big uh-oh. I planned on going in and hitting my openers. As I warmed up my squat my left shoulder began hurting. As I got towards my opener it was excruciating and after my opener (475lbs), I almost puked it hurt so bad. I almost couldn't put my plates back so I just called it quits. I'm not sure what the pain is, it begins at the medial border of my scapula and radiates down my arm basically rendering it useless for a time. It responds to ibuprofen and some massage but I'm not sure what the cause is. Possibly a rhomboid strain.

Well, I'm going nsaid and work on mobility and rehab this week. We'll see how the meet goes. I've invested a lot into this and I'm willing to die on the platform and I might if you can die from shoulder pain.

Get some Sore No More and put that stuff all over it. Get a massage and stretch your shoulder in ALL the ways. Then get out there to Brooklyn and show these people what you came there to do!!

    Lets go DOOD!

    4/23/15 - Wednesday

    4 days out from meet.

I went back to the gym today to warm up, see how my injuries are doing and to keep the movements fresh.
After one hell of a shoulder warm up...

    Squat- 135x5, 225x5, 275x3, 315x2, 365x2
    Bench - 95x8, 135x6, 185x5, 225x3x2
    Press 135x5
    RDL - 135x5, 225x5, 315x5
    Chin grip lat pulldowns - 100x10, 140x10, 160x10

Shoulder hurt pretty bad but I'm not as upset by it today. It did make my bench and presses feel awful.
I can't figure out what is causing the pain, I'm thinking its a strained rhomboid, trap or external rotator. It doesn't hurt being put into position, it hurts from the weight on it. I'm going for a chair massage tonight at the nail salon next to my gym. Maybe that will help.

    Meet recap

4/26/15 - south brooklyn weightlifting club raw spring classic

The meet went well. I'm happy with what I did. It wasn't what I was hoping for a few months ago but I hit PR's across the board, met some good folks and saw some great lifting. The competition was stiff and we were all in the hunt for first in the 120kg open class, with 10kg separating first and third; making for a fun meet.

    I took silver with a 647.5kg (1427lbs) total (pr)

My past two meets I felt like I left weight on the bar and did not want that to happen this time. My plan was to hit an opener I know I can nail that will prime me for a big lift, make a conservative PR on the second attempt and go for broke on my third.
This plan was a success in the sense that I pushed my max in all lifts, cutting it a little close on some. All my "conservative" PRs were in fact 1RMs. I don't think I could have had a better total. I don't think I got stronger this training cycle, I think I picked my numbers better.

    Squat: 215kg(474), 230(507)-PR, pass
Despite trying to hold my form, I still allowed a little knee cave/ slide on my heavy warmups and attempts. My left knee hurt pretty bad after my second attempt, as did my shoulder from the heavy weight on my back so I called it on squats and took the PR, though I felt I had another attempt in the tank. If I had taken it I would have been in tremendous pain and fatigued. It was a good of decision.

    Bench: 132.5(292), 140(308)-FAIL, 140(308)-PR
Bench felt heavier than I expected, and I failed my second attempt. It just was too heavy. For my third attempt I re did the lift and did not take the hand-off and just gave it everything. Thankfully I was able to get it.

    Deadlift: 260?(573)I think, 277.5(611) - PR, 282.5 - Fail
I forget my exact first attempt weight but I did it without a problem, I knew I had the 611, but it was a tiny bit heavier than I thought it would be. I was going to jump up 2.5kg, but the judge told me to jump up 5kg or pass. I went for the 5kg jump and failed the rep. I don't think I would have had the 2.5kg jump either.
