High school bench press: all that mattered was that you could "workout" (3x8 everything) with at least 135# and weren't afraid to try 225#.
Squat: I do remember squatting a lot and I'm pretty certain I went to reasonable depth (I had a floor locker that I would always squat down to and recall being sore). Seems like I did a lot of 225# 3x8 with a manpoon and eyes at the ceiling. I wrote my workouts down, but I don't believe they were ever planned beyond chest/tris/shoulder, back/biceps and "legs". I power cleaned and did deficit SLDL in football. I'm sure both were ugly. In my mid thru late 20s, I lifted on a similar model to high school, though I think I did more work in the 10 rep range. I squatted, but not near as much as I should have. I think I really liked the California front squat back then. I also wore gloves and did cable crossovers.
