    Monday, 11 May

    Squat: 425 x 3 x 8
    Paused bench: 295 x 3 x 8
    Power clean: 225 x 1 x 8
    Pullup: 7 x 3

This will probably be my last week of normal eating before I, unfortunately, need to do a bit of crash dieting. I'm losing roughly 1 lb a week on average, which is about the rate I'd like for longer term loss, but I need to weigh in at 231 in 26 days, and I was 248 this morning.

I know my strength will take a hit, but the qualifying standards for raw nationals are low enough that I could drop 20% from March's total and still make it. Obviously I want higher numbers, but qualifying at that weight comes first. I want to get down to at least 236 so that I don't have to do a huge water weight drop the day before.

After that, I'll bounce back up and continue my slow weight loss for October.

    That layback tho...

Don't get discouraged if you suck during and after the diet. Keep your eye on the prize.

    Wednesday, 20 May

    CG TnG bench: 285 x 3 x 8
    Snatch: 185 x 1 x 8
    Chinup: 10, 8, 8

No deadlifts today. I probably overestimated my ability to recover (again), especially for my lower back. I'll switch to four sets starting Saturday.

They're going to try burning out a nerve in my back tomorrow, so hopefully that goes well. It would kind of suck if it didn't.

    Jesus!

Good luck with that. Like, for real. That sounds serious and I hope it goes well.

Thanks. It wasn't as big of a deal as it sounds like, but I appreciate it anyway. I've got about a 2 hour block I don't remember, but I'm fine now. My back is sore from the procedure, so it's a bit hard to tell how well it worked yet, but I can still feel my legs and whatnot.

    Friday, 22 May

    Squat: 435 x 3 x 8
    TnG bench: 305 x 3 x 8
    Power clean + jerk: 225 x 1 x 4
    Pullups: 9 x 3

My back held up surprisingly well today, despite the puncture wounds. I wasn't expecting to be able to do squats, but they were easier than I would've expected even if it had been a normal day. Power cleans ended up being a bit too much for it, but overall it was a solid day.

    Monday, 25 May

    Squat: 445 x 3 x 4, 405 x 3 x 4
    Paused bench: 300 x 3 x 8
    Power clean + jerk: 225 x 1 x 8
    Pullups: 7, 7, 5

I've started my (crash) diet. I was 251 Sunday morning, and 246 this morning. At that rate, I'll be done in 4 days. Awesome.

The not awesome part is my lifting. I could have finished squatting at 445, but my form was going, and I'm finally learning when not to push it. When you're eating 2000 calories and no carbs is one of the those times.

Bench was grindy but doable, and cleans sucked for the obvious reason.

Hey, anybody want to see an 8-second grind on CG bench?

    Wednesday, 27 May

    CG TnG bench: 290 x 3 x 8
    Deadlift: 425 x 3 x 8
    Snatch: 185 x 1 x 8
    Chinup: 11, 9, 7

I'm not sure I was moving around enough on the last rep of set 6 for bench. Other than that today was uneventful. Still tired, down to 242. Too bad that's not a USAPL weight class anymore.

    That took grit. Nice lifts.
