Might be nothing, might be something. How does it feel today?
Hello Coach,
Tonight my son had to bail on completing his sets of bench press because of the pain in his shoulder. He says over the past month it has always hurt during the bench, but he pushed through it. Tonight he says it "popped like when you twist your wrist and it pops." The weight wasn't too much for him, but the pain was. When I try to get an idea of what kind of pain it is, he says it not muscle, but bone.
I don't have any experience with shoulder injuries, but I know you do. Any ideas and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bench press tends to fuck the shoulders up on the long run, I have never seen a strong bencher with healthy shoulders.
But still you gotta learn how to properly use your back and triceps and most importantly not let the elbows flare out while benching, anything that could take some pressure off the ant. deltoid would work.
A good thing to balance the shoulders would be to OHP ofc but I assume he already does that, as a warm-up for the bench I usually incorporate 2 sets of light OHP besides the normal warm up, works good for me for the past 4 months(4 months ago was my last shoulder injury), might work great for you/him also and it takes 3 more minutes.
Hope it's nothing serious and he gets better fast
He says it hurts about the level of a pulled muscle. He works at a Tire Store and says throwing the tires around gave him some pain. Tomorrow night he'll do the Press and we'll see how it goes during his warm-up sets. I've suggested he lay off the Bench Press next time and maybe do some Tricep extensions and try to give the shoulder a rest, unless you suggest something else. Thanks again.
Just have him do presses and chins for a while and see if it heals. We always suspect a cuff injury with this presentation.
Where does the bar touch at the bottom of the bench? I know my shoulders acted up until I moved the bottom down to solar plexus.
