    Hey Rip,

If the deadlift is trained every 5th workout in the novice program (every 9th day without a schedule change), then why is it trained every week in intermediate programming (every 7th day)?

    Thanks

Unfortunately, as much as I try, this stuff does not come naturally to me. I wont embarrass myself and let someone else answer.

To add to the mystery, advanced programming with Jordan (monthly periodization) had me deadlifting three times a week!

In all seriousness, I think it may be understandable that someone might be confused about this. Deadlift training frequency goes down from every workout (in the very beginning), to every other workout (the novice progression) to once every four workouts, and then in most intermediate programs once every week. That is, once every three or four workout, depending on which intermediate program you are following.

For the less flexible-minded people this may seem confusing, and they may fail to realize that there are only so many ways you can construct a program for three workouts per week, if you wish to keep the programming template simple enough. I've read ppst3 many times especially the sections regarding this issue and this is one thing that is not explainexplained explicitly. You can deduce it from what is said, but as much as Rip would like people to be smart about this, they just aren't.

Even I maybe wrong. And I'm one of the smartest people I know.

I'm obviously talking about the advanced novice program. I've also bought and read the book.
