You may not deal with this, but my set screw kept coming loose, so I welded it. If you run into that problem, you may want to do that or get some JB weld or something.

Loctite is a better approach. No heat to affect the local temper of the steel.

I tried Loctite. I may be mechanically stupid, but it did not work for some reason.

Did you use the cleaner on the threads first?

You would recall. Spray can, solvent, smells good, washes out the threads so that the Loctite can actually stick to the metal.

Loctite Blue or Red? Red is supposedly not removable under normal circumstances....

I don't think it's that critical. I used red on my old allen-screw bar.

I remember now. I sprayed it out with solvent cleaner beforehand and let it dry before applying the Loctite.

The problem could have been that it was in a pole barn in Ohio in winter. I don't know the temperature limitations on Loctite curing, but I know lower temperatures cure slower for chemical reaction based adhesives. Maybe the Loctite didn't cure sufficiently before I lifted with it.

Did you clean both the screw threads and the tapped hole? Both have to be clean.
