Looks like perhaps the best squat we'll see in any meet this year. Congratulations to Joseph and his dad John. We're very proud of you guys.
Joseph Pena, a Starting Strength product and high schooler, squatted 1005 pounds today at a THSPA meet. For those keeping track, that's up from 930 just under a year ago. Video:

Congratulations to this guy. That's freakin' amazing. Blaine Sumner's gonna have to watch out.
Really nice squat, kid is a beast, what are his other lifts like?
And I assure you it was the deepest squat at the meet. Note the eye gaze direction. And as usual, the YouTube comments are quite useful.
Amazing! Congrats!
Remind me again...how old is he?
17, I believe.
Wow. That's amazing. For one so young to put in the time and effort to accomplish this . . . just amazing.
Jesus. Amazingly strong young man. And the bar looked to be a fair bit off centre too (compare left/right hands, asymmetric bar bend etc). Just went for it anyway and got it done. Or is that just him, structurally?
