I read the article in preparation for my first meet April 1. What is the significance of the lifter completing 8/9 of her proposed lifts? Is it wise to go conservative and only propose lifts you can make, so as to go 9/9? I was inclined to push for a new high, leveraging the competitive excitement, but don't want to lose anything for doing so. The Rules don't make mention of this measure.

There is no award for 9/9. It is probably good experience for a novice lifter to make all 9 attempts, but since the competition is for total, you do what you need to do to make the best total. This may involve 8/9 or 7/9. If you go 6/9, you're probably being careless.

Thanks, Rip, that is exactly what I needed to know.
