I'll do what I do the best, make assumptions:

I believe to read/heard somewhere Mark did the split snatch when he trained (recreationally?) with Tommy Suggs for a while.

A doubt Mark got into a deep split snatch.

So this would be sorta like a power snatch.
185# power snatch isn't too bad for an older dude (30-50) that hasn't been training the lifts for under a year.
Also, considering his self-disclosed SVJ/NME thing.
It's all different if your not a several times a week full time Oly Lifter.

I don't see many on these boards doing it.

The squat must be trained to improve. This involves manipulating the volume and intensity and setting pr's over time. Funny enough, the snatch must also be trained to improve. You must do more volume/intensity over time, as well as improve your general strength over time.

So you think that your "power production genetics" limited you to a snatch that is both 30% of your squat and 82.5kg?

How much was I squatting and deadlifting when I snatched 82.5? And when have I ever considered myself primarily an Olympic lifter, and trained accordingly? This is part of you not knowing what the fuck you're talking about.

Momentum is tonnage. This is elementary physics. Momentum is not utilized in the squat significantly.

    Things that increase momentum:

    Weight
    Speed

Or you could use your head.

Lift a baseball above your head.

    Then pitch it at 80mph.

    Which takes more strength?

I want to respond by linking Darth Vader's "nooooo", but I'm afraid you'll just disallow my post. So I'll voice my discontent the way normal people do it. Please don't turn it into a paysite, Coach. Pretty please.

Why would he even post here if he's just going to argue with you? I don't think "do you think Mark Rippetoe is wrong" is an unfair or surprising qualifying question for people looking to post on a forum for people looking for guidance from Mark Rippetoe.
