So in essence, either you need to start using incognito mode, or your teenage boy does.
It's my work laptop, so he doesn't have access to it, nor do I lookup things like that. It's not a big deal. I typically use an ad block utility, though I know ads help pay the bills. Just forwarded it in case Rip cared.

I will second that the ads reflect your own browser history. Looks like your teenage boy has already discovered the internet's seamy underbelly.

Yup. The banners are retargeting. All I see is Baymont ads. "The call is coming from inside the house!"

You may not want to post this, and I hate to be a complainer, which this really isn't, but some of the advertisements on the banner are questionable. Pictures of asian or russian women in lingerie with a link to find and chat with one? I'm sure we have some youngsters on this forum, as well as some ladies who deserve our respect and shouldn't have to look at that stuff. Just thought I'd voice my concern there and let you know. I have a young teenage boy myself and don't feel like a site with quality information like this one should have such ads. Again, no need to post this publicly if you don't want, or even respond if you feel differently. Just thought I'd bring it up just in case.

    All the best!
I thought this was a fake post! LMAO, yea, those ads are drawing from your browsing history. It's been that way for a loooong time now.

Do you use your work laptop at home with the same wifi/internet connection as the other devices in your house, like the family computer and/or everyone's personal cellphones/ipads/whatever else?

As soon as he mentioned the ads he was seeing I knew this was going to backfire.

As far as the ads I see? Namely Rogue trying to sell me stuff, t-shirts, or more recently very expensive fancy optical scanners that I can't figure out how to program right...

Guys, I understand about targeted ads...promise. I also know that you can control what kind of ads are allowed, and ad targetting is not a reliable mechanism very often. I merely brought this to Rip's attention "just in case" he cared. Personally, I don't think seeing swearing and such is a problem for most teenagers. Being inundated with images luring them into porn is whole 'nother thing, as porn has been shown to have all kinds of negative consequences for those who get ensnared by it. I know this forum has a very dark underbelly, especially in the E&P areas. I find that very unfortunate and wish it was moderated better as I think it's a distraction. But that's just one person's opinion, and it's a free country and all.

Well SOMEONE on that laptop definitely looks up something like that. That is how ads are targetted.

All mine are are olympics shoe ads, since I bought the wife some last week.
