I'm heading from novice into advanced novice territory, and thinking about adding some curls for the first time in years.

    My current programming M/W/F is:

    A
    Squat
    Press (now using back-off sets)
    Deadlift/power clean

    B
    Squat
    Bench
    Chin

On Saturday I push my sled or row. When I go to light squat Wednesdays, I'll add rowing or the Air Dyne on Tuesday.

My thought is that some Rippetoe-style curls might help with shoulder stability and also drive some progress on chins. They also would serve as "sport"-specific training for being the father of a big, strong, adventurous preschool boy who needs to be grabbed out of risky situations.

If that makes sense, where would you add them and at what set/rep scheme?

Just do them on your Friday workout 3-5 sets of 8-12. Use dumbbells or barbell doesn't matter. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to complete the work.
