I have some basic questions, can someone help me out?

For the first one, this a page from the latest Practical programming book, I don't understand the sentence underlined in red, is there a mistake or missing word or typo somewhere? Can the author rewrite the sentence to clarify?
About deadlifts, should I be doing them barefoot? I don't think I will be buying a pair of socks just to deadlift, but the idea is still the same, lower height to the ground by wearing thinner footwear. My other concern is that if I do start deadlifting barefoot I will have to continue like that from then on if I want to keep up the weight? Is taking off my shoes before I start my deadlift lifts the right way to go?
Your legs get a rest while you bench/press after you squat before you have to go explosively pull.
Socks/slippers better than squishy tennis shoes. I like a WLing shoe with a very small heel or chucks
