I've heard Rip mention that drinking milk helps recovery/build strength, etc. I think I heard or read that he suggest drinking as much as 1 gallon per day????

I'm a big eater & love protein...guessing I get 200 grams of protein on average per day???

I'm thinking about trying to drink 1/2 gallon of milk per day...good idea??? I already drink a protein shake mixed with milk for breakfast...

My training log is Titled "Jimbo's SS Training Log" in the SS Training Log forum.

Snapshot of my present lifting...41 years old, 240lbs, 5'10", 20%+ body fat
    Squat 265lbs 3X5
    Bench 240lbs 3X5
    Dead 255lbs 3X5
    Press 150lbs 3X5
    Power Clean 145lbs 3X5

    Please advise!!! Thx

I stay away from milk, it has too many screwed up hormones in it.

    with your current diet,

are you gaining or losing weight?

are your lifts still going up?

Not me. I always pick the milk that is the least organic. I figure the more growth hormones the better.

I would suggest reading the "Nutrition and Bodyweight" section towards the end of SSBBT again. Rip absolutely does not condone drinking a gallon of milk a day for someone at your weight and height. A gallon a day is for "hard-gainers" who are at very low body weight and just need to get bigger. It sounds like you probably do not need to gain weight, but like one of the other members said "are you lifts going up?". If you are getting FAT already then I would keep protein high but limit other sources of calories. Like milk. Drinking your calories is a great way to gain weight without all the chewing, but it is also a great way to get fat:/

You should also read again the programming. You should not be doing 3 sets of 5 on dl's. That is too much stress for your body to recover from twice a week. Follow the program and go to the proper one set of heavy working weight of five reps. Everything else is 3x5.

You can laugh if you want to, but...

Bovine growth hormone, or bovine somatotropin (also called bGH, rbGH, bST, or bST), is given to cows to make them mature faster and produce more milk. The hormone is produced by cows' pituitary gland and an extra amino acid is attached before it's injected into dairy cows.
Dairy milk promotes excess estrogen in the body due to it containing estrogen from female cows.
