    Default dips on bench press day or not?

    • starting strength seminar april 2024
    • starting strength seminar jume 2024
    • starting strength seminar august 2024
    Ive been doing the following for a couple months now:

    Workout A
    Squat
    Press
    Deadlift

    Workout B
    Squat
    Bench Press
    Chinups (planning to add power cleans later)

    I want to add dips, but I'm not sure to which workout. I could do it during workout B, but that would mean my triceps would already have been hit by bench press, and might not be as strong. I could do it on workout A, but that might not give me enough time to recover for the benching 2 days later.

    Your triceps are worked very hard in the press as well. In fact, your shoulders are rarely the limiting part of the chain.

    If you want to put them anywhere, I'd do them once a week on the last day before your weekend. So, if you do Monday, Wednesday, Friday, put them on Friday.

    I actually liked dips on bench day when I was doing them (am not currently). I'd do them like any assistance - after everything else and before any cardio work. Didn't seem to interfere with anything at all since I did them after. I was typically splitting pressing movements 3 days per week at that time, so followed the 48 hr thing f4p just said too. YMMV.

    i did my dips on the same day of the week, so one week it would be on bench press day and the next it would be on press day

    didn't appear to affect anything

    IMO, it won't make too much a difference provided you're not doing a ridiculous amount of dips.

    Try adding them in, and if you find it limits your benching and pressing, then you can make the decision if you want to move them to a different day, add them on a rest day, or just drop them all together. It's going to be individual.

    Louie Simmons says the chest gives out before the triceps, so he always has his lifters do a lot of tricep work after the bench to give them the necessary development.

    i dont mean to but in off topic, but did you mean you were going to be adding powercleans to workout B?

    In PP Rip has it set up like this

    A
    Squat
    Bench
    chins/pullups

    B
    squat
    Press
    Deadlift/cleans

    feel free to ignore me, especially if you consciously did it this way

    I meant to workout A. Isn't it supposed to be like this?

    I always thought this was the original program.
