I use Konstantinov's videos in my seminar. He may be the strongest human I have ever seen.

Are you asking me whether Bolton really did his deadlifts?

Wow. 937 pounds, no belt, no straps, no hitching. That's incredibly humbling. I just did some quick research on Wikipedia and apparently Konstantinov has the all-time unequipped deadlift record with a lift of 939 pounds. Bolton has the equipped record of 1008 pounds.

Has Bolton ever tried to beat Konstantinov's unequipped 939? How "equipped" can you be for the deadlift? I guess I'm not that informed on how the suits work, but I was under the impression that they don't offer as much of a benefit to the deadlift as they do to the squat and bench press.

    Coach Rip,

I was wondering if you could comment on his belt placement on his box pulls. I'm pretty sure I've seen him do that on other occasions and in the full lift in competition.

In any case, Konstantinov is a beast.

    Mark,

In your next book can you please lay out a program that will get me as strong as Konstantinov. I think that would be fun.

    Thank you.

    I don't know. You're right about a suit.

My comment is that I've never seen anyone else do that. I don't know.

There are other lifters who use a higher belt placement, as well. Mostly Eastern Europeans, it's not popular here in the States.

Andy's best raw deadlift is 430 kg 948 lbs.

If it's not an official record then that's probably because it wasn't in a raw meet. Nobody really cares about raw deadlift records though, for the reasons you state.

I may just be a freak, but this is wear I place my belt for both Deads and Squats. Placing it there is where the belt allows me the most surface area with which to push against using my abs.

Bolton's a beast, but I'd rather look like Konstantinov.

There is room for argument on whether or not Bolton's 1003 lift was completely legit (pretty amazing either way), but you can't argue that the 1008 wasn't clean.
