You know, I cannot nor will not argue with you on that point. I may got land, but you's gots to buy lunch!

As far as the Whiskey thing: My other option to getting my PhD was to go into business with a friend, and add a distillery to his brewery. I'd already be making it in the basement, but the Wife has been quite firm on the matter. Depending how things go if/when we get out there, I'd like to get legal and produce some spirits as a hobby. It's pretty cheap to get a license as a micro-distiller in WA. $200, or summat. I have a great many ideas on that front.
Hick.....I have a some great ideas too....hick... I'm a great taste tester, hint hint, nudge nudge...hick...

Moving across the continent continues to suck, though I have apparently received a prestigious fellowship.

Not much training, and little enough exercise. Bleh.

In the meantime, the Joke gets me through.

There is nothing pleasant about moving. I lived in my last place for almost 30 years. I moved 10 miles. It took me longer than I would have thought in the worst case scenario.

Just imagine I am one of those super idiotic Conservatives we all hear about. My wife is in bed and I'm to busy to search. Enlighten me to what this is and means? Obviously it has to be good....

Are you going to need some help unloading at the West end of this move? I have a LOT of vacation just now and I really can't stand some of the people with whom I am compelled to associate with at work lately.

It wouldn't be all that different than the Great West Coast Rallies I have done with our daughter at OSU the last several years. A longer drive, but otherwise much the same.

Well, basically it's a funding mechanism for either a student, researcher, or teacher. The 'fellows' who are honored receive a stipend, sometimes benefits, etc, and in return are usually required to perform certain tasks for an institution. This may be as simple as doing their research, teaching, or what have you, but the requirements can sometimes be fairly time intensive, and secondary to the normal business of the fellow. I still have gotten any details about what mine entails, exactly. And googling it turns up precisely zilcho, other than a handful of past recipients. Which is why i sarcasm italicized prestigious.

I truly appreciate the offer, but I doubt it. We're driving out with two friends (who'll be staying with us for a week or so as we get settled), one of whom is a fairly strapping fellow, and honestly none of our stuff is that heavy. And we pack fairly intelligently. And I find I possess a weird stamina when it comes to loading and unloading things, even though I am generally not all that strong or fit.

However, I suspect I am going to have a great deal of time on my hands all through September until things get rolling, at which time you are welcome to make a pilgrimage northward to the great nation of Cascadia.

Damn. I was hoping that when Mark headed North, he could stop by and pick me up so we could both help you.

A get-togather in Sept might be cool though.

Moving is a major life stressor, like getting a divorce, or surviving a trauma, or going into Mordor to toss the ring. You're swimming in cortisol, probably. This will pass, and you will begin to train again regularly when things settle down.

Outstanding news about the fellowship! That is Way Cool. A few less generic details would be nice, if you're comfortable sharing them.

Most importantly, try to stay connected with all your SS homeys as things get crazy.

That's the plan. I've managed to do some labor now and again. Spent some time trimming a knotty white pine stump to fit a rail anvil the other day (with a hand saw, 4 pound drilling hammer, and a couple "chisels": a high carbon railroad spike, and my breacher bar), felt better afterwards, though I could have wrung a quite large amount of sweat out of my clothes. Not quite done, and I don't even know if I'm going to be able to take the damn thing with me, but my body felt better afterwards.

Not sure what you mean by "Less Generic". I have very few details about the fellowship. A dollar amount, what's covered (tuition and most fees, I guess?), and the name (Hall-Ammerer-WRF). That's pretty much it.

I thought you might fancy that idea. If I had some pianos to move, I'd definitely take y'all up on it.
