    Default Death with Dignity

I had recently watched the beautiful new HBO documentary "How to Die in Oregon," and for discussions sake, I was curious what everyone's opinions and thoughts are about Oregon's and Washington State's Death with Dignity acts?

A great review of the film - http://blogs.suntimes.com/shannon/20..._personal.html

I think people should be allowed to die when they want.

i support suspended torture for as long as possible

in all seriousness that was a good article. i'd like to put an advance directive together once i get some more life experience under my belt. i do object to the glorification of avatar since that movie looked terrible

One of my scientific heroes might be the most obscure Nobel prize winner ever, a guy named Percy Bridgman. He developed cancer that metastasized and was effectively living a nightmare until he committed suicide. He left a note that said, "It isn't decent for society to make a man do this thing himself. Probably this is the last day I will be able to do it myself." If that doesn't at least give you pause, you're either really enlightened or incredibly dense.

The world is full of sadistic assholes. If one has it so bad that death is deemed to be the best option then one should not be fucked with.

My father deserved better than a half-assed morphine overdose that, since he had by that time a huge tolerance of it, only put him in a coma for about 20 minutes. And of course, suicide can screw your people out of death insurance they're owed - the entire thing is fucked up.

We'll get to the year 2000. Eventually. Maybe.

Wow, the situation you describe really is fucked up. I hadn't even thought about the insurance aspect... that's a very disturbing thought.

The Man is not a good man. Its a good thing for him that no one knows where to find him.

My father has a funny way of putting things.

"A man that knows when he will die, knows too much"

as someone who has almost* lost his life a few times, I cannot imagine choosing a day to die, simply because, every time i have been given the choice, i have chosen not to die, and i cannot imagine choosing any other option.
