Those birds are money, bruised livers go for much less on the market, and a bird's liver bruises incredibly easily. Thus, those ducks and geese are treated well. If you buy foie gras from France or the U.S., the fowl are happy. There are other countries where the fois gras might get produced in horrorshow conditions, but you'd want to avoid the stuff because it's not the good stuff anyway.

In fact, producers in the U.S. are especially careful about their geese and are also big producers of free-range, humanely raised fowl of other varieties. There is no such thing as a factory farm in the U.S. which produces fois gras. Doesn't exist. The boycott of American foie gras actually really hurts the cause of humane farming.

No, but seriously--most of their support is from people who thing that PETA is the ASPCA. Which it most definitely is not.

In most immigrant families, you're considered insane if you don't eat meat. Many immigrants come from places where meat was a luxury. To live in a country where it is affordable to everybody is a huge deal.

If you think PETA is actually about the animals, you don't know anything about PETA.

That's because I burned out on Internet political discussion during the last Presidential election.

Whiskey is the great unifier because makes you care less that the other person disagrees with your political views, as long as they're smart and an interesting drunk.

Exactly. Most of their budget gets spent on celebrity publicity and crappy ads that rely on sensationalism and shock value, not on actual activism for any specific animals. Their videos are almost all dishonest, showing conditions at foreign factory farms and slaughterhouses in countries where there are no animal cruelty laws and pretending that shit happens in Nebraska. And they shut down local shelters for being supposedly cruel but simply euthanize almost every single one of the pets that they rescue. Because PETA doesn't believe in pets. They don't care about the pets. They think that human beings should not own pets, because it violates an animal's rights to be owned. So better dead and in deep storage in a giant meat freezer than in a shelter that might be overcrowded. Very few people know this about PETA. I'm all for organizations that are active to fight animal cruelty, but PETA is not one of these. It is an organization of which the sole purpose is to keep itself going.

How do you know that the slaughterhouses being shown are from different countries? I saw one on fur that told you at the start it was in China

And how much do they pay celebrities? The ones that I know of volunteer. Which adverts are you talking about? The ones on TV or the ones on their website which show the slaughterhouses, etc. ? I think they do well with what they can seeing as they can't show what's on their website (btw other animal rights groups have similar videos - are you saying that slaughterhouses have much better conditions than what are shown?)

Am I the only that realy wants to be there for the human BBQ? It's probably all tough, but grass fed, so it will have that wild gamey taste.

I could use a new wallet too.

In general, they are idealistic bitches who are highly educated only thought the magic of the Almighty Dollar. The only thing they have in common with Socialists is espousing methods and choices that aren't realistic and just plain wouldn't work. But they obviously believe they are morally superior, just look at the phrase "cruelty free".
