Default Monday, 06/11/12 - Volume Bench and Press

    Bench
    135x10, 185x5, 205x3 (3rd paused), 245x5x2, 245x4, 245x5x2
I tried a shorter rest period after the first and second set, so I ran out of gas on the 3rd. Without a spotter, I was able to get it to the lower pegs on the bench. I went back to 5 minutes of rest and also put on my belt for the last 2 sets.

    Press - PR
    130x10x3
Even though it's a PR for 3x10, it's not really much to brag about, since I've been getting 135 for 30 reps the previous 2 weeks. I just haven't been able to do it in 3 sets of 10 yet. Today, the 2nd set was hard, but I rested up for the 3rd and it was much easier.

Hmm, might not be good iron Steve.. usually good plates are sold based on 80cents/lb (example). I found my used plates at 0.65/lb, I think. That's a deal! They look like badass older iron plates. I only bought one pair of 10s though... I had to do some clever things that may have involved hanging bags off the bar in order to progress... let's just say meat is more useful than I originally thought. Ha!

Nah- at the end of the day, iron is there to add weight to the bar, not to look pretty.

Rust comes off nicely - plenty of advice on the forum on how to clean rust off bars/plates.

If it fits the bar and it's as heavy as advertised, buy it.

And I was tempted to make jokes about about the canadian dollar, but the joke has been on US for a while - our currency is worth less and less every day.

I just threw out that recommendation because cheap iron is more often than not lighter than advertised. Meat though, they weight that shit to the 10th decimal place. Just stick a bunch of hams on the barbell, screw the plates.

That's why I specifically said "it's as heavy as advertised".

And I am unable to take your advice due to a severe shortage of 45lb hams with a 2" hole in Massachusetts.

Default Tuesday, 06/12/12 - Volume Squat, Speed Deadlift

    Squat - PR
    45x10, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x2, 315x1 (paused), 350x5x4
I may stick with ramping the volume up across 3 weeks. Did 3x5 last week, 4x5 this week, so maybe 5x5 next week. I would have just done 3x5, however, if I didn't feel like I had that 4th set in me today. 350 felt a lot lighter today. I probably could have done a 5th set. Also, squatting without wraps can be quite liberating. Sometimes I think just not having to deal with them gives me some extra gas. Pretty happy with today.

    Speed Deadlift
    15 singles on a 30 second clock with 270 + 1 blue band
    Still moving up. Still effective.

Watched the video, you don't have whatever that is that you did in your original post. It is cleat more than 315 for reps.

Oh, did you mean I haven't achieved this yet, Mac?

That's funny that I had such high goals back then. I did get 360x8 on Friday, though.
