    Default Vitamin I and Alcohol++

    I just started taking 800mg, 3x per day and plan to do that for 5 days to help clear up some golfers elbow. I'm also on vitamin 'R' (for rest) as I have had the elbow problem going back to February or something and haven't been able to really work through it.

    I'm a very moderate drinker and can easily go without anything for days or weeks if I have to, but just for the sake of knowledge, how much of a concern should having a drink or two be while on the 'I'?

    The ++ is another question: I think I might have a stress fracture in my right foot and I read somewhere that they recommend Tylenol instead of Ibuprofen for this because the Ibuprofen might slow healing of fractures. I'm not planning on worrying about it since I'm only doing the Ibuprofen for a few days, but does anyone know what that's all about?

    BTW: I suspect, if it's a stress fracture, it's from POSE running.

    You should ignore me if one of the docs or med students on the board contradict me, but my understanding is that moderate alcohol consumption is safe with Ibuprofen. Even moderate consumption can be risky, however, with Acetominophen.

    If you're trying to heal it would be best to not drink, obvs. If you can go 5 days without the shakes, I'd do so.

    Heavy drinking definitely interferes with bone formation/healing, but I am not aware of any studies on light to moderate drinking and bone health. My common sense tells me that if you're out to a nice dinner and want to pair a nice glass of wine or something with your meal to get the most out of the fine dining experience, it's not going to break the healing process. But without such a reason, it's probably best to keep the potential bone healing retardants to a minimum.

    The problem with Tylenol/acetominophen and alcohol is that there is a risk to the liver.

    I think ibuprofen slows healing because it is an anti-inflammatory drug. inflammation is a necessary for tissues to heal correctly.

    The opposite of this, actually.

    It probably depends on the type of inflammation. I'm not sure. I've always thought that something like a sprained ankle is better swollen since it is the body's way of fighting mobility in the injured tissue. I might be wrong.

    Acute inflammation, such as from traumatic injury, is necessary for healing. Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is a different beast.

    Ibuprofen and related drugs can interfere not only with injury healing (as does icing injuries), but also with muscle building.

    I'm doing the ibuporfen protocol for three days.

    I just swallowed my ibuprofen with bourbon.

    Still alive.
