    Thanks, Tom.

    10/14

    3.75" deficit deadlift - 609x1 (4 lb PR), 626x1 (17 lb PR)
    Press 241x1, 251x1 (6 lb PR), 231 2x2, 183x8

--Went ahead and took the workout today even though I felt like shit. Good news: I've lost 9 lbs and gotten stronger on the diet so far. Bad news: my scale was not working properly and was weighing about 20 lbs light. I'm actually 220 on the dot. Fuck.

Those are some monster lifts, Kyle. Looking forward to seeing what you total at the Iron Fest!

    Thanks, John and John.

    10/15
Bench (paused) up to 355x1, (not paused) 325x4,4,4 (Pec feeling pretty touch-and-go by this point. About as heavy as I'm willing to train bench when I don't have a PL meet upcoming, given my history of shoulder problems.)

    Db row 130 3x15

    CG bench 225 3x12

    Pulldown 2x10

Thanks, Kong. I might need to borrow someone else's hands for 700, though.

    10/17

Squat 495x1 (RPE 8), 533x1 (RPE 9 at most), didn't get to go any higher, more on that in a minute, 445x5

Press 241x1 (RPE 10, should have left the gym after 533x1 squat and come back in tomorrow), 199x5,5, 209x5 (PR for 5, finally getting my head on straight again)

--Mixed bag. I smoked 533. Felt like a 9, looked like an 8 on video. I wanted about a 9.5 today, something that would leave about 10-15 lbs in the tank and help me figure out my attempts for Iron Fest. Well, one of my goon training partners asked if he could take 510 first. He had just done 500 and it was a GRIND. I told him no. I told him there was no way in hell he had 510 in him and that I wasn't helping him unload it when he missed it. So he was going to miss it, unload it, reload it, and then 30 min later I'd have to go, which wasn't going to happen because I wasn't waiting that long.

He assures me he won't miss. Not only does he miss, but he bails on the lift halfway and the bar crashes into the supports. The bar is destroyed. My buddy Evan, to whom the bar belongs, tells the kid to pay up and a fight damn near breaks out. The kid will have to pay for the bar. We made that clear. Or he can never come back. It was a TX power bar and was really our only good bar for squats.

So the kid unloads the bar, gets our second best bar, loads it, and Gentry gets ready for his third set of 3 at 515. First rep he inexplicably gets stuck, but at least sets it down on the pins like someone who knows his shit. Now Gentry has to unload the bar, rerack it, and load it for me. By this time I've been waiting well over 30 min, prob around 45 min, so once the bar is loaded I get up and go on a tirade, yelling about how much they all suck and how I'm going to squat by myself from now on so I can finish a goddamn workout lol.

Once I finished yelling I knew there was no way in hell I was taking another single, so I stripped it to 445, did a set of 5, then did some presses that were way harder than they should have been, and went home.

Had these douchebags not fucked everything up, I have no doubt I would have gone 553x1 for a 13 lb PR today. As things stand now, I have no idea what to take on my second and third attempts next week. I'm thinking something like 500-535-555, but honestly, I might be good for 575 and not know it. And I might get stapled with 560. But I definitely wanted something above a 9 RPE today and I didn't get to take it. I'm still pissed two hours later.

    10/21

    Squat 315 3x5
    Press 241x2 (PR), 135x15
    Bench 225x10
    15 Pullups

--Took one heavy set of press and deloaded everything else. I feel ready for Saturday with no injuries, not even a minor tweak.

Will open 500 on the squat, 220 press, 600 deadlift.

Not sure of seconds, but would guess 530-550 squat, 240-245 press, 640 deadlift.

I don't like to plan thirds in advance. I'll likely move to a hook grip after my first or second deadlift attempt. There's no way I'm holding onto what I'm thinking for my third attempt on a non-deadlift bar without a hook. I hook in training once in a blue moon and never note it in my journal, but it never seems to bother me. The adrenaline usually nullifies the pain.

    Kyle,

It was great meeting you at the meet. I'm curious to find out how I fared against other competitors in my weight class. I bet you are too. I'm sure you will be one of the top lifters in the 220lb weight class. There is a video of your top pull on the Starting Strength Camps facebook page. I'll be following your log here. Drop by my log if you get a chance -> http://startingstrength.com/resource...ad.php?t=52928

    Thanks for taking my videos!
