Good luck, Gillian. My girls love your training videos, especially my six year old, who is very interested in weightlifting.

That is a very impressive bench press, Gillian. Best of luck.
Thank you for your support.
We are getting ready to leave for the meet in Philly. It should be about a 4 hour drive provided that the DC rush hour traffic has cleared up. The plan is to stop off at Penn and visit with Jim Steel and his athlete/assistant strength coach Tracy. I can't wait to meet her! I am hoping to workout with his female athletes in the near future but today will just be to say hello and check out the amazing facility.
After that we are headed to the expo center for the technical meeting and so that I can get a weight on the competition scale. I am sitting very close to the top of the 67.5kg weight class - this should be interesting. I guess there will be no consuming of Philly cheese-steaks today
I will be lifting in the 9am session tomorrow morning. Mac will keep everyone posted with my lifts and hopefully video links. I'm very excited. My family is coming down from NYC to watch the meet - this is a big deal because they are absolutely terrified to watch me lift heavy things - it makes them nervous, they think I am going to hurt myself. My mother breathed a sigh of relief when I retired from gymnastics. I don't think weightlifting/powerlifting makes her feel any better.
Good luck! Kick some butt. Have fun!
I am at the American Open right now as a platform coach for someone. Start planning now. Next year, you and I will lift at the AO together!
I gotta tell you, I'm excited too! Can't wait to see how you do.
I think Mom will feel much better. Very very cool that you will have your own cheering section! My family is coming down from NYC to watch the meet - this is a big deal because they are absolutely terrified to watch me lift heavy things - it makes them nervous, they think I am going to hurt myself. Good luck Gillian. Have a Philly cheese steak after the meet. Or even after the weigh-in ;-)
A classic:
Gillian just finished her first meet.
Squat: 127.5Kgs (281lbs) PR, Bench 85Kgs (187.25), Deadlift 150Kgs 330.5lbs PR. Bench 2nd and third lift attempts were for the American record of 93Kgs (204.5lbs) but proved to be too much today.
Total: 360.5 Kgs (798.75lbs) which is considered an "Elite Raw" total. (773lbs is considered Elite) Gillian's Wilks total: 368.2285.
All this in her first meet.
Proud of my wife, and grateful to Rip for all of his help and guidance throughout.
