    Unlike a lot of other foods, the "best by" date on eggs is purely for sales purposes--it has no relation to when eggs go bad.

    I eat 4-6 per day and my HDL cholesterol (the "good" one) is off of the scale. As it is so good, and I love eggs, I don't dare stop.

    I was wondering how people can have them lying around long enough to worry about the sell by date.

    I bought like 160 with the printed date a couple of weeks away

    Costco sells them in boxes of 7.5 dozen. I buy two a time when I go, which is roughly every two weeks or so...or when I'm running critically low on eggs.

    I have 1/2 to a dozen a day. But it's not like we're talking about Hepburn levels. I do it because eggs are damn cheap. About the cheapest source of protein I can get my hands on, and you get the bonus calories.

    I buy them in large quantities when they go on sale. Still I would eat them within a month. It was only one time when stopped eating as much for a period as I was cutting fat, but i had already bought like 10 dozen eggs.

    That being said, I checked and I don't see any sell by date on the eggs I buy.

    An interesting fact;

    Eggs are already 12 days+ old when you get them from a supermarket. Fresh eggs have strange properties, dont cook evenly and are impossible to peel when boiled. I have some of my own chickens, I have to leave the eggs to age for at least 2 weeks before they are boilable.
