Default So, I need to learn to squat again.

Just received a reply from a lift director about the meet I had mentioned in my log (or somewhere).

I had asked if there was anyway I could lift and use my MantaRay too. He stated that he would contact USAPL and find out.

    This is what he said:

This is what I am going to do. I am going to let you lift as a guest lifter squat only. You cannot use the manta ray but I believe you can squat with out it. I have shown other lifter and judges your video and they are impressed with your strength and they all think you can squat without the use of the manta ray also. I hope this helps.
Not sure how I want to reply to it. I know I CAN squat without it but, I don't think it will be very much weight. I was scared to death to do 135lbs but, maybe that's because of a mental block I had on myself. I don't want the weight to drop behind me, as that's what it feels like it's going to do. I can't create that "shelf".

So maybe I won't get to compete ever, unless it's a Rip Invitational, Special Olympics, or some custom meet.

Have you tried pushing your stub (...what would be a more sensitive word to use here?) backwards to tighten up your back as well?

If you manage to pull this off, you gain my respect for life. I assume low-bar is out of the question, is high-bar possible?

I think you can do it. Based on your videos it is possible.

This is why you squat in a power rack. Try it without a manta ray, and see what happens. My guess is your experience failing a squat with only one arm is going to be the same as mine with two arms. A big loud crash, then either a)look sheepishly around and hope nobody noticed it was you, or b)defiantly jump up, shout, and pretend that's what you planned to do all along. You don't have much of a "shelf" when high bar squatting anyway. My guess is if you can shrug back your left shoulder, you should be fine.

What about a safety bar squat. I know you can't use this in competition but at least in your training it can be used hands free.
