Pressed on target today. Tried for +15 but it didn't happen.
Dipped heavy. 200x3. Good to be back.
Shruggles to 455x8. Bluewater straps really are awesome.
Wrists feel like poo from everything but that's okay.

How long you reckon it'll take you to get to 300 on the press?

Im aiming for summer. July. Maybe. My extra volume work is doing good things. And the band work will let me get used to driving 300 through the top half before I get to actually repping it off the shoulders. Doing power clean to press lets me use a wider grip than my normal presses. That way I'm stronger outside of just one set up. Right now I'm feeling really stable under the bar because of the extra work.
I will probably get up to 250 on dips and 405 on the bench about the same time I press 300. If it happens.

What's your thoughts on higher rep work for novices, such as myself, when it comes to the press? I have stalled out repeatedly over time pressing, and I feel like 3x5 might not be enough volume, especially given that I have so little functional meat on my upper body. But also not sure what approach to take. Extra sets? Higher volume sets?

I are a fan huge high reps of.
The base of 5s is sound and beyond reproach for what it does. But after the initial phase I like to discover individual genetic requirements for progress. Most people are red fiber dominant and I like using higher reps for that. But lower reps are still required as part of a program for really getting stronger.
My main program uses everything in a rotation that resembles periodization blocks. But high reps make up half of the training. I like them. Don't tell too many people but I have not much respect for doing something only once. Impressive, yes. But I like to see what people can do repeatedly. Grew up on a farm. One time means nothing to me. Work is long and hard.

I was taught to program sets and reps like this:
Reps: 1-8. Sets: 1-8
Reps: 10-18. Sets:1-6
Reps: 20-30. Sets:1-3
Reps: 35-45. Sets: 1-2
Reps: 50-60. Sets: 1
Off the top of my head.
Those are for maximum effort reps. Nothing nonmax counts for a rep scheme. That's where people doing bodybuilding reps fail. Reps aren't magical. Max reps are.

Oh, I never thought for a minute that you'd be satisfied for more than a ephemeral moment with one rep at 300.

Lol. Well, maybe. But I have to hold myself to my final lifts. So 300 press, 405 bench, 500 squat, 600 dead. Extra reps at those weights are fine. But no heavier loads beyond those. Maybe I will work on taking my 20rm closer to those numbers though. But 100lbs lower for 20 is pretty solid stuff.

20 reps of 500 on the deadlift is Magnusson territory. So yes. "Solid" is a word I'd use.
