Default I dumped the bar after catching my clean,

And it landed right on top of my left knee. It was during my working set at 100kg, I was falling back a bit, tried to dump it and it caught the right above the knee cap. It has a fairly good size solid mass building and the knee is getting really stiff. I got a fear this will affect progress.
I really need to work on dumping weight, just a couple months ago I fell forward during a 155kg back squat and landed on all fours, left me hurting also lol.
That's enough of my whining for now

    Steve

What happened to the bar when you dumped it on the back squat did you manage to get lower than it rests on the ground or did you dump it and fall forward? Sounds like either of these events could end your lifting permanently.

this is some scary shit.. once I got stuck in the hole on set of 320 squats, and I nearly tipped over forward which would have gotten my neck trapped in a stupid crossbeam of the rack and finished me. I managed to dump it backwards and luckily only this happened. My rack in my garage sucks and the safeties don't go low enough, so I don't use em..

I was just able to do my first squats since dropping it on my knee. Knee still has pain at rock bottom. When I failed my back squat I was on my back up but in a good morning style as I always do when the weight gets heavy for me and then fell forward. After being on all 4's for a few seconds I dropped hard and fast and snuck my head just between the bar and the concrete, it scraped up the back of my head a bit. First thought after it happened was to check my new pendlay bearing bar.

Id get this checked out by competent doctor ASAP. Swelling may suggest you have done some serious damage.

This is the reason I have never tried split cleans. For me it is pretty much impossible for me to drop bar on myself during normal cleans, it just wont happen. But if I tried a split clean I think it would happen immediately.

Stop playing russian roulette and either fix your rack to allow for safeties at the proper height or buy another rack.

I got an old rack off Craigslist for 200 USD so I can lift safely by myself - I'm sure you can find a safe, affordable rack to lift in.

As an alternate suggestion - if you're only talking about a few inches in height, could you build a stable raised platform inside the rack (heavy plywood, etc) that would allow you to use the lowest safety position?

I work out at the gym now, but I'll be getting another bar and some more plates soon. Since I'm starting to coach other lifters and hopefully will soon be coaching multiple ones, I obviously need to stop playing russian roulette as now I'm endangering other people.

I got my rack for $300 off craigslist too. I had to assemble it, and once I did I noticed the errors. It's pretty sturdy (could be heavier), but it's way too narrow to allow people without really good shoulder flexibility like me to squat. Also, you have to use a closer grip to bench, and be pretty careful about putting the bar back evenly or else you're gonna pinch some skin.

Other than that though, great suggestion for raising the inside of the rack. Should be easy to cut a bunch of plywood and raise myself up 3-4 inches (sounds like a mountain). Really though, I should just get a new rack...

RogueFitness R3 was my ideal rack, but 695 plus shipping gets me to about 800, and I cannot justify the extra 600 for now.

If you do build a raised platform, make sure it's VERY stable and make it big enough to eliminate the risk of accidentaly stepping off it while loaded. I'm going to build a 2 inch tall removable platform for my own cheap rack, since it has the holes spaced at 4 inches apart.

So that's what the inside of a barbell looks like....
