    Thumbs down Hip Compression Pain

Firstly apologies if there is already a thread but i tried a search but as i do not know exactly what is wrong i couldnt search for the muscle in question and tried hip compression but found nothing that applied.

so basically the problem is my left hip. Last year or so i noticed it is less flexible than my right hip and also the 'turnout' is far more restricted. Since starting SS around 2 months ago, and especially the last two weeks it has been feeling a little sketchy.

The area in question is around the back of the hip joint, pretty much the back of my ass. Ive tried stretching it but hasnt helped much. Last night while doing working set squats something went a bit funny. Now, when i compress the joint (ie first stand up on it, jump slightly off the ground and land on my left leg etc) i get a short stabbing pain deep inside at the back of the hip. The pain is very localised, always in the same place and the pain does not travel down the leg at all. The pain is short and stabbing when triggered (ie standing up on that leg) but goes away after a couple seconds if i maintain the position. Without really knowing much on anatomy I am thinking it is possibly a muscular tear rather than a pinched nerve?

Any thoughts from you good people would be very helpful. Also if people could answer as to how to recover from this (rest/stretching/physio etc) and if it should interfere with my training at all it would be very helpful.

As someone on my Log said, it could be Piriformis syndrome? However the pain does not go down my thigh?

I had similar things, sometimes it would radiate into the leg, sometimes not.

Try a tennisball and put it between your ass and a wall. Now roll the ball around and search for a painful point. Put as much pressure on it as possible.

    I hope this helps.
