Default Lower abdominal strain, hernia, other??

My google fu skills are not what they should be, so please disregard this if it's been asked and answered repeatedly. . .

This morning while doing my working weight squats (220#), I felt a burning sensation in my lower right abdominals as I came out of the hole. It began with the second rep of my first set, and got worst with each rep. I didn't complete the set. I tried again on my second set, felt it again on the second rep, and stopped. It is midway between my belly button and my junk, on the right hand side. It is not tender to the touch, nor is there a visible sign of swelling.

The searches I did seemed to suggest a lower abdominal strain, but there wasn't much definitive.

I would probably rest it until my next lifting day (next Monday), and do a re-set, but wondered if you had any suggestions.

I was able to do my presses afterwards without problem.

    Thanks for your time.

It sounds like a small muscular tear in your abdominals. Work through it.

If you really want help, you need to post a picture identifying the EXACT location of the injury. Also, you have not given an specificity to the amount of pain it is causing.

Don't do a reset, and see how you go monday.

In the event anyone encounters this in the future I thought I'd close the loop on things. All seems okay.

I had done several google searches and searches of this board and found a few instances of very similar descriptions to what I experienced: A burning sensation in the lower abdominals about 4" to 6" to the right of center, a few inches below the belly button. No tenderness to touch, no bulge or hole. Pain only experienced during the working sets of my squats, growing in intensity through my reps, and occurring as I came out of the hole. I could have gutted things out, but was afraid it was something serious as it was a foreign feeling to me.

In any event, I saw several threads on other fora where almost identical symptoms are described and feedback was sought. Folks suggested a possible hernia or a possible abdominal strain. The original posters in these threads, alas, did not close the loop, so I could not determine what they ultimately discovered.

This occurred for me Friday, April 27th and I was scheduled to squat again Monday April 30. Something came up so I had to push things back until yesterday morning, Tuesday, May 1. In any event, I was able to squat yesterday without discomfort and without any sign of the burning sensation I had experienced before. Not sure what to make of what I experienced last week, but it seems to have resolved itself.

And the plot thickens. . .

Warmed up to squat this afternoon, working up to my working weight (225#). As per usual, I warmed up without my belt and then put the belt on for my work sets. Very first rep of work set, I get the sharp burning as I come out of the hole. This time it was very intense and I dumped the weight. My buddy said, "I wonder if it is the belt. It burns right beneath the belt on the side, right?"

So, after he did his work set, I loaded the weights and tried it without the belt. No burning sensation whatsoever. The workset was even more of a bear than normal sans belt, but at least I was burn free.

So, I guess I'll mess about with belt position and see what happens. . .

I had a very similar experience a couple years ago that seemed to have been manifested by introduction of the belt. I was on SS at the time. Long story short, I avoided the belt for a long while afterward (6+ months), but have now been squatting heavier and with the belt for over a year and have not experienced any more symptoms. I concluded that it was some type of minor abdominal tear.

Update: Since raising my belt height by about 1", I've had no further symptoms or issues. Something about the belt position was not agreeing with me, I guess.
