damn...does that beat kirk or is he wearing more gear
He's wearing more modern gear than Kirk. Regardless, that was awesome. First rep was a smokeshow. Hard to tell depth from this view.
Is it standard procedure with weights that high for spotting to be performed by a squad of 12 year old boys?
Malan's best raw squat (992) is much better than anything Kirk has done. He doesn't seem to get much out of his suit at all.
Anyone else find it amusing when multi-ply lifters talk about how "hard" and "dangerous" it is to walk a bar out of a squat rack? They should watch this video.
I understand the sentiment, but this is single ply and it's not even as close to as stiff as canvas etc.
English Translation of what Malan Said at the end:
"Should have said I wanna hold it, should have said I wanna hold it"
It's not so much the walking it out, but most multi-ply guys squat with a really wide stance. It would be hard to get your feet set walking it out, especially carrying all that weight. The monolift allows them to setup in a wide stance from the start. Without a monolift, the lifters would have to use a more narrow stance.
Sorry for being unclear. I didn't mean multi-ply lifters in multi-ply gear. I've heard many multi-ply lifters say this about walking squats out in general, e.g. walking out a raw squat.
