Default Dead lift grip temporarily screwed my left arm.

So not that serious but curious if this is normal and just temporary as my body assimilated and becomes more flexible.
I dead lifted 315 for 3 singles with no belt yesterday, a PR for me, I have herniated slightly discs from years ago so am taking progression on this lift extra slow in an attempt to build a strong unherniatable lower back.
Any way I usually go under hand with my left hand with anything over 225ish instead of double over hand.
After a rep my outer bicep and fore arm started to hurt somewhere deep at the point where they meet, I guess from bending out. I think my shoulder rotating out kinda hurts too.
Is this normal? Should I take it easy or train through it. Should I consider bringing my underhand closer to tge knurling? I switched underhand sides and might do over hand with straps for a while and just use underhand Witt lighter weight in an effort to stretch it out. I realize this is not a serious problem so don't flame me.
Sorry if I rambled but I'm on the toilet and in a rush for work.

That is the level of detail that is sadly left out from most posts

Hoa, hang in there champ, it might be more serious than you think. If the bicep of the underhand is hurting, than you might be risking a bicep tear. So be very careful with that. Your arms should be perfectly straight, like ropes, hanging over the bar. Be absolutely sure about that.

Oh, I hope you didn't have much workload (pun intended). Thanks for the colourful details, very useful.

It seemed more like a joint irritation than a bicep tear. But I'm a layman. P

    MBUS,
My 2 cents (take with a grain of salt)
    --I refuse to over/under, doesn’t feel right to me…
--I DOH all warm-up sets and use straps for work sets, BUT will attempt DOH at work sets (for example:: my last work sets were 345 and I did 1 DOH, 2 straps, 1 DOH, 2 straps)
--FYI: I use a modified Sumo stance
I would say try DOH as much as possible and straps for the rest…other may rec differently…once again, just my 2 cents….

Try switching it up for a while, the mixed grip can cause bicep tears that initial present as soreness you describe. If I recall correctly, I think the 3rd edition recommends what Ericholas recommends - work sets with straps and mixed for competitions.

I use the hook grip and when you get used to it it's just as just as strong as mixed grip or even stronger.

This might be a cop out but I have smalll hands and hook grip feels weaker Than DOH. I will train with straps and just use mixed ever once in a while thanks.

What's a modified sumo stance? I was thinking of doing some stance sets as well to switch things up and develop more muscle. Maybe it would help with my squat and finding the bottom and not hurting my back. Thanks.

It is a cop out, you just need to get used to it. I have small girl hands and hook grip just fine. You just need to get used to it.
