    But that does not seem to align with the kettle bell argument. Which (I thought) was, "rotating a weight about an axis reduces the force needed to accelerate the weight"

    If there is an advantage to inserting rotational force into the lift, wouldn't a more exaggerated arc provide more benefit? But I thought that the more elite athletes have bar paths approaching closer to vertical? Wouldn't they be able to lift more by inserting sweeping arc, first towards, then away from their bodies?
