Hey Coach,
Quick question: Should off-season strength training for football athletes incorporate more conservative periods of rest between sets to mirror the short timings between bouts of activity on the field? On-season?
Thanks.

What would be the purpose of this? What is the purpose of off-season strength training?

To get stronger.
And I dunno. It sounded coherent when I heard my speed coach, who otherwise refrains from weight room silliness, tell it to me.
I appreciate the response. Thanks!

Damn... Typhoid Yellow beat me to the punch with "to get stronger." I was also going to ask TY what the purpose of two-a-days is?
NO, it is pretty evident that off season training is to lose fat and get 'em abs!
Why does there need to be all of this sarcastic shit? The question is a good one. There are a lot of strength coaches who think that the metabolic demands of a football game should be resembled in the weightroom, ie. resting between sets for the same period of time that elapses between plays. I for one would like to hear an intelligent discourse on this.
This shit has been discussed on this board for 5 years. Do your fucking homework and stop trolling this board. I predict you're about to have the shortest posting history on this Q&A.
