Too bad about that whole Abraham being told to sacrifice Isaac thing.

FWIW, Christians are inordinately fond of that story and treat it as an exemplar of obedience to and trust in God.

Yeah, I know. I was once at that point in faith before my "downfall."

I'm sorry that this is a hang up for you. Have you read Fear and Trembling?

and JM3, I haven't heard of that, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

I always thought God was being a dick in that story. Even when I was a very devout child. So I understand his hangup.

Actually, it's not really a hangup for me. I was kinda putting that here, somewhat tonge-in-cheek, due to whoever said something about not everything written in the Bible was condoned by God. I've seen much crazier things written in the Bible.

    That was me lol

I agree it is a crazy, radical text that says many incredible things. It's just that most of those who say they follow it have tamed it and drawn a fence around certain parts and really missed the point entirely. Christianity today would certainly look a lot different if people would take the Bible's lessons to heart. Well, let's just say the ones that are crystal clear. I don't want to get into some internet pissing match with someone(not saying you) who will want to haggle with me over every little point.

Yeah, I definitely agree with pretty much everything you said. I don't even have a big problem with a lot of Christianity, but it could be better. Especially if more churches focused on helping others, like Jesus did. Just my opinion.

I'm not big into arguing about religion. I've been on both sides of the fence, and like you said, there's too many points that could be haggled over.
