The gays should be punished for their outrageous behavior. Let's make it illegal for them to get married.

Hm, how long did it take all and sundry to get their collective act together to figure out what AIDS was, where it came from, how it spread, and what to do about it? So all that puzzlement was Reagan's fault?
So because he didn't talk about AIDS he didn't care. You'd think an actor could feign to bite his lip with a "feel your pain" speech I suppose.Reagan's position on gay rights has been a subject of controversy. In the late 1970s he wrote a response in his LA Herald-Examiner column to the organization backing the California Briggs Initiative, stating that he opposed the proposed ban on gay public school teachers.[18] Reagan's daughter, Patti Davis, wrote an article in the New York Times where she recalled her father talking about Rock Hudson's homosexuality in an accepting and tolerant manner.[19] He was, however, widely criticized for ignoring the quickly worsening AIDS crisis, not even mentioning the disease publicly until late in his second term as president. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preside..._Ronald_Reagan
It's true that there was very little in effective treatment for a long, long time, and the fine details of how HIV/AIDS attacked the body took a bit of time to unravel. But transmission routes and risks were worked out pretty damn fast, because of how severe the potential epidemic could have been if the disease were relatively easy to transmit.
His surgeon general had a pretty decent set of policy recommendations that got quashed, I believe. I think the general suspicion might be that regardless of what he may have felt personally, Ronaldus did not act until near the end of his Presidency out of fear of angering his religious right supporters. Which is worse than simple disinterest, really.
Taking the piss, obviously. We made their marriage illegal years ago lol.
So this lady flips off Reagan? A little cheeky, maybe. Not even in the same league of harm that the US Government has done to gay citizens (the fact that harm is being done on behalf of America's ignorant majority doesn't make it any less despicable.) In particular, the Republicans have made discrimination against gays a pillar of their political philosophy. They also turned Ronald Reagan into a cartoonish mascot of everything the party is supposed to represent. Reagan the President may not have done anything notably sleazy to the gays, but Reagan the icon is a zealous bigot and deserves every bird flipped his direction.
If that is true I agree. But he had four years from his second term onward that he didn't have to care about the religious right and what they thought. I think that was not a motivating factor as much as may be commonly believed or he would never have signed off on the abortion bill when was Governor of this state.
and the irony is most republican views are not that of Reagan, even though he is their poster boy.
I don't see what the big deal with this is though, so what she flipped off a portrait of a former president.
Edit: Why don't I remember more people being upset when Mrs.Brewer pointed her finger in Obama's(our current president) face. At least, I don't remember a thread about it...

Right. The main problem is that flyover people without graduate degrees want to manage their own affairs without guidance from their betters, leaving all that wasted brilliance on the sidelines. The fact that it happens to be a system that provides growth, which enables all the rest, is just an inconvenient fact that we smart people will sort out once we get our efficiency panels in place and running. Then, the right people will be able to prosper.
