    Default Knurling marks from bar

    I have a B&R bar and have marks on my back where the bar sits. I've been squatting for over a year, and this never was a problem until the past week or two. Could this mean that the bar is slipping down slightly when I'm squatting? Also I've noticed that my spine of the scapula feels like the bar is sitting directly on top of it. I feel like I'm positioning the bar correctly at the top of the deltoids. I know that that bone goes slightly downward diagonally. Therefore, while I feel that I have the bar correctly positioned right below the spine of the scapula, the bar still hits as it goes across my back where the bone angles down.

    If you could get someone to watch the bar when you squat that would answer your question. I set the bar as Ripp teaches in the video but when I've finished training my side deltoids are marked from the bar along with my rear deltoids. This looks to suggest that I misplaced the bar during my low bar back squat BUT when I assume the position the marks actually tell that the bar is in place when my upper back is tight: my side delts come around and so far back that they share some of the load and the top of my rear delts actually come in line to the spine of my scapula. I've tried lowering my bar position because after seeing the marks I thought it was too high but when I did the bar behaved just like Ripp said it would because it was too low. As long as the bar is not on your upper traps, not sitting directly on any bones and is not too low it should be in the right position. Watch the video as long as it takes to get that bar position drilled into your mind.

    Thanks, I rewatched the video again. I'm sure that the problem is losing tightness. In the video Ripp mentioned that losing tightness would cause the bar to rest on the bone. It's been easy to just lose that tightness for a second in between reps, or just after unracking before the first rep. Seems that over a period of time, I have developed tendencies to relax as I feel more familiar with what I am doing. I just have to go back to when I first started squatting, and remember to keep that intense focus the entire time during a set.
