Not fun. But better to be tried by twelve than carried by six. Wouldn't you agree my good man?

I'm surprised it took this long for this thread to come up. I've got a carry permit and carry either a Kahr PM9 or P45. The 9 goes in a kydex pocket or IWB holster. I have a crossbreed micro clip for the 45. I don't carry that often, but I'm trying to get in the habit of it.

I have a question that always interested me. What is the difference between open carry and concealed carry? Obviously with open carry you can have your firearm in open sight but does it require a different license? How many states actually allow that and how common is it?

With concealed carry when are you allowed to show your gun? If you draw it thinking you might have to use it is there a chance you could be charged?

Open vs. concealed carry varies from state to state, some prohibit one, some the other. Some require licenses for one but not the other. For example, VA permits open carry in almost all places (schools, courts, etc), and requires a permit for concealed. NY prohibits open carry (except when going to the range and such), but allows concealed carry with a (very tough to get) license. IIRC, WV allows both, freely.

In most states, there's a crime alled brandishing - pulling a gun for no good reason, basically. The specifics vary from state to state.

Hurling, you're not from these parts, are you?

If you have a CCW, please exercise that right and carry your firearm.

While I appreciate his message, he came off as a bit abrasive. Maybe he could tweak his style a bit to not come over as a do-it-my-way-or-you're-a-moron type

I was born in Kankakee, IL in 1950. While my family moved around from Ohio to Montana to Venezuela until I was 6 I lived and worked in Illinois until 1980 when I moved to this madhouse. I have worked in Chicago and the suburbs for oh, just a few years during that time frame. I've seen Daddy Daley and he was even uglier than his spawn, Daley the 3rd. So when I call that place part of Crook County I know what I'm talking about.
